2. If it’s a 6 year deal he will be a UFA when it expires - and as Vantel noted, they would have bought 1 UFA year.

They can negotiate a new contract with 1 year remaining, right after free agency opens I believe.

He finished his three year entry contract . RFA lasts 7 years . He has 4 more years of RFA and signed for 6 so they bought 2 years.

If Pettersson kills it the next few years it’s gonna cost the Canucks dearly in the long run. If he doesn’t, then no issues.

Edit - also, I think the first year burned didn’t count towards UFA status. Technically at the end of the fourth year he would still have been an RFA. So you were right the first time, they bought 1 UFA year. At least I think so.
