He finished his three year entry contract . RFA lasts 7 years . He has 4 more years of RFA and signed for 6 so they bought 2 years. - VANTEL
I think you're off by 1 year, think they bought 1 year of UFA. |

Dreger…
“As reported, the term for Hughes is 6 years and the term for Pettersson is 3 years. Two side are still grinding on the final details before signing off on exact aav for each.” |

What about the group that thought Petey was going to get 9 x 8 years.
If I remember correctly no one here guessed correctly. |

If Pettersson kills it the next few years it’s gonna cost the Canucks dearly in the long run. If he doesn’t, then no issues. - LeftCoaster
Yes but it buys cap space & time to re-up BB Bo & JT. |

Rumour that Canucks are trying to trade Hamonic to an American team for a RHD but teams aren't that interested in an unvaccinated player. |

I was hoping that Petey was getting the 6 year deal and Hughes the 3 year deal. |

It wasn't the dollar amount that was wrong, it was term. People (including me) expected around 6 on a 3 year deal based on Dahlin. Had someone said it would be a 6 year deal, my/our expectations on AAV would have been adjusted just like they would be on a max term deal. So, I'm more surprised that it wasn't a bridge (also based on Dahlin) not the dollar amount which isn't all that bad. |

Me as well. Now that we know Petey is 3/7.7 & Hughes 6/7.75 we can project the future somewhat. Hughes actually becomes a very tradable asset if we change gears eg Bones grows into what I believe he can be. |

Nobody has traded for him yet. Metro has no Canadian teams. Little bit less cross border travel. |

It is more indicative to why these negotiations took so long. Canucks fans aren't used to negotiating with superstar players lol. Sedin at 7 million and luongo at 6.75 being the highest contracts prior sort or shows the lack of super stardom the franchise has had. |

Petey said he wanted to see where the team was in a couple years this summer, so it doesn't surprise me he took the shorter deal instead of Hughes though. |
