I also don't think BT is the best forward on the Sens and is only worth 8 million + to the Sens. He has increased value for the Sens and will be paid more by only the Sens. On any American team he is woth $7 million, maybe $7.5.

Its like Gallagher in MTL...he got overpaid (IMO) because its Montreal, bidding against themselves.

It's why no team has offered him a 7.5 million x 7 with all the money in upfront bonuses to take advantage of Eugene being cash poor. He only has that value to the Sens.

I want the team to sign him and I'm okay with 7x8 but I don't think he and his family are reading the present NHL financial landscape properly.

Then you won't ever see him traded to the Rangers OR any team for that matter if the requirement is of a player of Lafreniere's caliber. Brady is a good player, will never be a superstar quality player.

I like Brady but first and foremost he is a negotiable asset and if you do a deal you need to get back something of comparable and negotiable value.

It strikes me that should the Sens decide to deal Brady in the short term the best negotiable asset and the obvious trade is a one for one for Jack Eichel. It is also is a good deal for the Sabres as Brady better fits their age profile. If the deal does not work, both teams would be able to flip the acquired asset within the next few years.

I am not huge fan of Eichel. But, in a situation like this you take the best negotiable asset.

i don't think there is a chance Ottawa takes on Marner and his overpriced contract even with the 2.5 mil retained.
Brady is less skilled offensively but at least he puts in effort every night and is hard to play against. Marner would not fit into the style that Ottawa plays.

BT is a machine, he hasn't scratched his potential - shots and hit totals don't lie. Mark Stone always was in the top 3 in takeaways even when he wasn't putting up great numbers, and now he's a star. Brady will be the same (already is imo). It would suck to see him go but he ain't worth 8 a year on paper just yet. If he REALLY wants to be on the Blues ASAP, a package starts with Thomas and Kyrou.
