Maybe they'll sell the team, then 😀 - Powerslave
i'll put this in the "be careful what you wish for" column...i couldn't wait for the sabres to have an owner who'd spend money...we got it...and...
it's the worst 10-year stretch of hockey, by far, in sabres history |

my cousin is big into these festivals. Well. Before he had his baby. He went to this one, Lost Lands and the one in Germany that's big I guess. - TheSabresTaco
I need to go to these two. I think Germany was/is called The Love Parade.
Which might be called something else now.
Absolutely amazing time...
I've been to at least 10 different huge festivals and I can't stop... Except for last year when they canceled 95% of them.

If it was solely based on training camp performance to date, Quinn would be sent down today and Weissbach would be getting at least one more look, but we know it's never just performance based. - kingcong39
it's really not even worth bringing up...we all know that a seventh-round pick has the odds stacked against him and that a first rounder will always get the benefit of the doubt...especially a top-10 pick who happened to be the gm's first pick ever

I guess the only way it could get worse (for me) is if they sell them and someone wants to move them. |

Was talking about this last night, don't think they can, they need the money to reach the floor. |

I mean in the end, all three of Peterka, Weissbach and Quinn should stay as far away from the stench as possible.
However, I do understand why keeping Quinn and Peterka for the last game or two is beneficial from both an optics stand point and a long term benefit for both players development in a sense.
Weissbach gets to hit the ground running at Rochester camp right away and hopefully can be an impact player for us down there |

They've spent to the cap almost every year, sunk millions into the team, the city, etc, with the same results. And some will cry that they're "being cheap" this year.
Bad owners? Yep.
Cheap? Not even close. |

And under the cap floor...? - kingcong39
It looks like it may still count against the cap.
From the CBA:
For any period during which the Player under a Long-Term Contract is no longer playing in the League during the term of that Long-Term Contract by reason of retirement, "defection" from the NHL or otherwise (but not death) ( such that he is not playing and is not receiving Salary pursuant to that Long-Term Contract), an amount attributable to that Player shall nonetheless continue to be included in his Club's Averaged Club Salary as described below. (1) Upon that Player's failure to play in the League by reason of retirement, "defection" from the NHL or otherwise (but not death) (such that he is not playing and is not receiving Salary pursuant to his Long-Term Contract) (assuming it is prior to the conclusion of the Long-Term Contract), the difference between the sum of the Actual Salary and Bonuses received by that Player under that SPC and the sum of the Averaged Amounts charged against the Club's Averaged Club Salary under that SPC shall be calculated as follows: (i) First, calculate the total Actual Salary and Bonuses paid to that Player under that SPC ("Total Payment") until the date of such retirement, defection or otherwise (but not death); (ii) Second, calculate the total Averaged Amount charged against the Club's Averaged Club Salary for the Player under that SPC ("Total Cap Charge") until the date of such retirement, defection or otherwise (but not death); (iii) Subtract Total Cap Charge from Total Payment. That number shall be referred to as the "Cap Advantage Recapture." (iv) The Cap Advantage Recapture shall be charged against the Club's Averaged Club Salary in equal proportions in each League Year over the remaining term of the SPC (i.e., the yearly charge shall be calculated by dividing the Cap Advantage Recapture by the number of seasons remaining under that SPC). (v) In the event of a "bona-fide" mid-season retirement, the Cap Advantage Recapture as calculated above shall be charged against the Club's Averaged Club Salary beginning in the League Year following the Player's retirement (provided, however, that in the event such "bona-fide" mid-season retirement occurs in the final |

i remember all the barbs thrown the panthers, hurricanes and coyotes way (among other teams) throughout the years because of ultra-low attendance...terry's sabres are up sh!ts creek revenue-wise - Michael Pachla
Vogel took a swag at the potential revenue loss at $21M-sh. Add that to the normal ~$5m+ loss with triple the attendence...of course, operating at $64m in salaries paid out should help quite a bit. |

They financially are not allowed to suspend him, and that is hilarious to me.
Jump in here Luni but if you're suspended do you count on the cap?

See my response to Cong. I'm no lawyer but it does say that salary counts against the cap in a situation "such that he is not playing and is not receiving Salary pursuant to that Long-Term Contract" |

I got from the section regarding the upper and lower limits of the salary cap structure. I'll dive deeper into it tonight.
Start at page 257 of the CBA for those interested |

I think the situation is a little more complex than a yes or no answer regarding whether they're cheap. They trimmed a ton of staff to ensure they had the money to ice a cap team in 2020. They probably had the money to not screw over some of the lower end staff, but they did it anyway. In fact, they definitely had the money, because they make 300M in NFL profits yearly.
So (frank) em, (frank) their boat, (frank) Kelly's poopty restaurants, (frank) Matt's poopty hats, (frank) Kim's inability to govern a franchise, and (frank) Terry for everything he's done to this team.
Good job on hiring the right GM and coach for the Bills though.

It's 2021. 10 years ago, Sabres and Bills fans were tired of being mediocre for a long (frank)ing time.
One had to die for the other to succeed.
It's October 5th, 2021 and today's power rankings in the NFL and NHL, respectively, have Buffalo at 1 and 32. The absolute highest and lowest possible ranks in both leagues.
What a (frank)ing time to be alive. |

What about for an injury sustained on the ice but the player refuses the team's recommended treatment?
I bet that's an easy answer to find.

Is this an off-ice incident though?
I think the Sabres would argue that they are below the cap due to no fault of their own. The player essentially refuses to play by virtue of declining medical treatment |

Well we find out in a week what they do with him. Either IR or Suspended. Considering it's the Sabres, I'm sure they'll make matters worse.

Think about the level of pathetic this discussion is regarding the Sabres organization, that we're trying to figure out if they can suspend the best player they've had in a decade or risk being penalized for being below the cap floor.
Horrible! |

The Sabres blaming Eichel to potentially avoid being penalized for being below the cap floor is like a 6 year old telling his parents after a fight with another 6 year old that the reason for the fight is "he started it" 😅😅😅 |
