Needs NYS to pay for stadium and then pay PSLs on top of that. - ImThatGuy
If I'm Terry.. wait no, I don't ever want to be Terry.
If I'm worth 5.7B, and my liquidity is, let's say, 3B, and I own the Bills and Sabres, I go to the County, say here's 50% of the cash right now, let's get going. The County agrees because every other county agrees to this fair share deal. I make that money back in 3-4 years from NFL profits. Sure I'm probably burning 60-70M over that time on the Sabres, but that's basically like us lowly bumholes earning $1000 from a business transaction and having to give up $60 in taxes.
Paying >1M to support average workers is a figurative drop in their bank account. But they didn't. Because they (frank)ing suck.

The NHL is heavily involved with this, even if it's behind the scenes. No way in (frank) they're penalized, as they will be following the guidance of the NHL and PA in everything they do going forward. - TheSabresTaco
Sums it up well. It's fun speculating on what could happen and the consequences, but the Sabres know the position of the NHL and NHLPA on all of this stuff.

AKA, he's in year 1 of a 6 year 36+ million dollar deal and Kahn would have to pay him a lot of money to fire him. - ImThatGuy
That was his OSU contract. Reportedly wanted 12M a year on a multi year deal. May cost a bit to fire him. |

I'll stay away from the political answer, but the common sense answer is this.
It is not their fault that the NHL, the country and most of the civilized world shut down. A lot of these people were left with nothing. The right thing to do is to pay the salaries for the rest of the season, because these people were employed and counting on that paycheck until the end of the season. If they're yearly employees, sure, the payments stop when the season ends. But if they're salaried workers, I think you work on a settlement for each, pay the healthcare that was agreed upon when they were hired until the local economy reopens.
Don't really feel like jumping into a public policy debate, but everytime the Pegula's are provided a chance to do the right thing, their instinct is to go against it, and it's (frank)ing exhausting.
I know things cleared up as far as free government money and all, but there were real concerns for about 2 months, as well as health insurance expenses. |

he doesn't give seven poops about the cap. he wants his money. if he's suspended, he doesn't get it.
and the question is, is what he's doing legally suspendable. - TheSabresTaco
Is it?
I don't think so.
Actually, I believe the real question is, will the Sabres suspend him? If his Salary does not count towards the Cap as a result of being suspended, can the Sabres actually do so without violating the Cap? ... not without making other moves.
So, if they choose NOT to make other moves to increase their Cap spend to the Floor, then they can't suspend him and will be forced to pay his Salary.
Which then brings up the context of the Insurance Company telling the Sabres that without suspending him and thereby freezing their financial responsibility for paying him, said Insurance Company may tell the Sabres they are on their own.
This is what I'm getting out of all this.
So fascinating these Sabres..well, I mean fascinating off the ice anyway, lol! |

Granato interviewed last night I think (or this morning), Casey and Girgensons are for sure centers on this team. Other spots are up for grabs. I'm sure Cozens is one. I don't think they want Tage playing any actual games at C for the foreseeable future.

The Sabres through 4 games have given up the 4th least amount of expected goals against per 60 of any team.
They’ve given up the 2nd most goals of any team
The defense will be fine, goaltending will kill them.
But I cannot wait for the Chuck’s from West Seneca to run Dahlin outta town - sbroads24
let's just say...the defense needs some serious work |

Have people been happy with Cozens in the preseason? I think, I hope he has more to offer. He is reportedly on a line with Murray and Quinn tonight so he is kind of falling from the graces of the coaches too in the preseason. - GilPerreault11
i wanna see skinner on one side and olofsson on the other with another line featuring jj--mitts--vinny...
doesn't need to be a defined no. 1 or no. 2...just think those would be some good line combos |

Maybe. That’s not what the numbers bear out though. But it’s preseason
But I get it, the people who spent years defending the big fin are going to suddenly become Craig Anderson fans and pretend the defense is terrible and it’s not maybe the worst goalie tandem ever assembled to start an NHL season. And that last sentence isn’t an exaggeration |
