It is in the NHLPA contract that the team has final surgery say. What can the league do? - hello it's me 2050
Mediate for the good of the player, the team, and the league? |

My point that you missed was that it really isn't experimental anymore. - MBFlyerfan
Valid point...its been available approaching 30 years. The prosthetics however have become significantly improved.
Buffalo's biggest complaint is that a high impact pro athlete has yet to have it (NHL/NFL)...so it's a die by the sword situation....a la, we don't want to be the first. Begs the question...how do you get a successful case if everyone says no to being the first.
I'd counter argue that Chris Wideman (UFC Middleweight fighter) has had it and been fine. He takes plenty of shots to the head that cause his neck to move around...in addition all his wrestling and jujutsu put direct strain on his neck (Various chokes, neck cranks, etc).
Lastly...it's completely reversible. If it doesn't work you can do the fusion. The only "the sky is falling" argument that has been made is like that you expect to hear from on a conspiracy website...."the disc could eject and sever the spine!!!"

Its reversible? I didn't know that. So they put an artificial disk in without removing the disks that are in place?

Lehner looks bad after this IMO - arichardson22
The guy is an idiot, you don’t just tweet out vague nonsense and name people. Lehner should be suspended. |

no...you remove the existing damaged disc. it's reversible in that you can do the fusion over the top of it if for some reason you weren't getting results. The artificial disc would most likely be pulled in that scenario as they did the fusion

I am a Lehner fan and usually appreciate his honesty and openness, but this crossed the line. He should have "clarified" yesterday; he had all day. AV wouldn't have to answer to anything if Lehner simply cleared this up yesterday. AV deserves an apology from Lehner. |

So the coach was mean to me to others. Need to create that safe space at some point I assume. How dare the coach be meant to anyone.
I would never want to be a coach in any sport in todays environment.

Wow, that is cool stuff, its amazing what they can do now. I am not a fan of Eichel but I am rooting for him, its his life and his career, and I think he should be the ultimate decision maker. |

Just such an unnecessary black eye for the game at this point. |

Yep, I agree. Also, in spite of Lehner’s mistakes in the rant and flaws in being understandable, I do hope that whatever current, real issue that made him so upset is addressed. |

Holy god. Well, Lehner is going to be lucky to not receive a fine or be sued IMO.
That's terrible. |

I love all those saying they never thought he was accusing AV of pushing pills.
Lehner has to realize language matters, and when you aren't clear about what you say, people will interpret it how they see fit. My god, we see it just in here every day.

Honestly, maybe he's having some more mental health struggles and if so, hope he gets it sorted out. I hope the NHL/NHLPA is looking to support him if that's the case.
I think AV handled it well. I don't think AV will even push for an apology although one is in order. |

True. My interpretation of that rant was that AV was a dinosaur and that he was pushing pills. Why else would you say you have proof etc if it is not for a serious (illegal) matter. You don't say you have proof that a guy is a demanding coach FFS. |

100% agree on both points.
Assuming AV didn't do anything wrong here, the League really has to do something significant to Lehner, or else we'll see more unsubstantiated pot shots taken by members of one organization against another.

That's a good point really. After a heated game or in a series.. let's take some shots at the other team's coach or their star player... |

The internet can connect dots (in their head) with false accusations, but can’t connect the dots with AV’s analogy 😂 |
