Two of those contracts are exempt from the 50 contract limit as those players were sent down to Junior.

Kressler and Villeneuve are exempt from the 50 contract limit. That's probably the discrepancy.

He'd clear waivers initially. No one wanted him - it's why he's on a PTO.

If he excels in the AHL and then comes up and performs well enough in the NHL, then he'd be waiver-bait and Vancouver would claim him if or when we demoted him!

He’s had a good preseason so far. So another team might be willing to take him on immediately

Wonder if the leafs don’t sign him if another club might toss him an offer

They said no at the start of summer tho

But I think a bunch of guys have have shown they could step in for less. Just as an example, Ho Sang for minimum and Mik for a pick gets you a pick and $900k in cap space. Or Semenyov (sp) or Brooks . I know those aren’t the right guys cause they don’t PK but maybe they have enough guys for PK now.

I just think bubble guys making more than $1.5 might be a bit nervous.

That’s more than fair… he has played well, I do wonder if he’d clear waivers tbh
- Dozzer

Since he's on a PTO, any team could technically offer him a contract as well.

When will these trades get completed tho?

The actual season starts in less than 10 days, that’s a lot of work to get done in that short of time

Even while on a PTO? Or do they have to wait for that to be released?

I think (not sure) that they could simply offer him a contract before he was released.

I have a vague memory of something like that happening once in a Habs camp.

I guess that makes sense, but I assume it much be a contract offer and not another PTO offer

I dunno. It’s far more likely that they won’t do any of the things I suggest. But if there’s a GM out there who’s not that impressed with how his camp rolled out, he might toss a pick for Engvall or Mik. Wouldn’t take long. I bet somebody called after the Mik story broke.

Yeah, you pretty much need to special order a knife to get one from him... The price is $$$$, too, but if you know how to care for it, it could be a generational knife.

It'll for sure be one of my purchases when I win the lottery.

Oh for sure, another GM wouldn’t be doing their job if they call just to see what the leafs consider his value.

I think Wednesday moving forward will be interesting to see, will they give Ho-Sang a contract and hope not to lose him? Will he have another team offer him a contract? Or will he not get one at all?

He should get an AHL contract by the Leafs, at least.

My best guess is that Josh Ho-Sang will at least earn himself a contract within the Toronto Maple Leafs organization. I think it’ll be a two-way deal at league minimum or very close to it. I’m betting he starts in the NHL though.

At this point, I don’t see Nikita Gusev being awarded a contract at all within the Toronto Maple Leafs organization. I could see him returning to the KHL this season.

Right. And I would also guess that if another team were coming in and offering him a contract for an NHL roster spot, Dubas wouldn't counter-offer (unless Ho-Sang expressed a desire to remain in _this_ organization for personal reasons). He's pretty strong on letting these guys get an opportunity to play at the NHL level - even if it's with another organization.

He’ll land a contract I’m sure, however I doubt it’s the NHL level with the leafs, unless there is some rather surprising trades made to open up the cap space

No waivers needed. It’ll be an AHL deal.

Meaning he wouldn’t be able to be brought up if they wanted to use him to cover an injury no?

Nope. They would have to sign him to an NHL deal to do that.

Obviously I don't know, but I'd think if they sign him it'll be on a two-way NHL deal for $750k. He would have to clear waivers then.
