I don't get the Montembeault acquisition.
Primeau could have been the backup if Price isn't out long term.
When Price returns, they will be stuck with 4 goalies in Laval
They will probably send McNiven down to the ECHL, and rotate between Primeau, Poulin and Montembeault. Not an ideal situation. - stinger67
It seems pretty simple. If Price is out for 10 games+ then you have an established NHL backup in Montembeault to help Allen who struggles with too much work. Primeau plays fulltime in the AHL as the starter.
Waive Montembeault when Price is back and some team will take him or you bury him. |

I don't really get it either, I thought the strategy would've been to give Primeau as many AHL games as possible.
I heard Éric Fichaud saying he wasn't expecting Primeau to become a regular in the NHL, for what it's worth. I do respect his opinion a bit since he was a goalie and is supposed to know what he's talking about but I find it's way too early for this kind of assessment.

I think that was the point, by burying him you're taking away games that Primeau would've normally played in the AHL

No no... We all know what'll happen. It'll be:
Poehling, Montembeault, and a 2nd for a bonafide C. |

Seems that Poulin has an AHL contract...so he could be sent down to the ECHL.
Yeah. I remember people saying the same thing about Price when he was 22 as well. Not saying Primeau will have Price's career, but it's a bit early to say he's a bust. |

ah, that would make sense. and I doubt Poulin would be ahead of Primeau on their depth chart anyways

Fichaud said this morning on the radio that Primeau will never be an NHL goalie, book it.

I was wondering too...
the only thing I can come up with is they believe Montembeault is really good and he was stuck behind a bad situation there with the gignormous Bobrosky contract and knight that is there for a while ! |
