Oilers, their fans, and their media are the biggest (frank)ing whiners ever
Nobody in the league gets a free pass to the net go (frank) yourselves. Look at Boyd against Jonathan Quick tonight. Almost the exact same play and Quick pounds the poop out of Boyd afterwards.
Driving the net at 100MPH (in a (frank)ing preseason game) is stupid. McBaby is going to get injured again if he keeps playing so recklessly.
No special treatment buddy, sorry. Put the pegs back into the ice.
Gaudreau got slashed in the hands and had to leave the game and this is the story lol - flashfire
So is Tanev taking out his legs when Zadorov gets beaten. |

It's been said a lot but bears repeating.
Intentionally Tripping someone is a penalty and not allowed in the league. You are supposed to let the player with the better body position through. This is pee wee and lower stuff here folks. Players are trained for over a decade prior coming to the nhl to not stick out their legs, knees, or sticks in a game. Doesn't matter what the situation is.
Intentionally Tripping someone in a dangerous situation is stupid and a penalty. An NHL level player should not be making that mistake.
Intentionally Tripping someone in a dangerous situation that threatens not only the opposing player but your own goaltender is omfg over the top stupid and should not be taking place in nhl games. Period the end. If you have somehow rationalized yourself to this point I honestly don't know what to say.
The fact that McDavid is the best player in the world is beyond the above but absolutely should be taken into account as well. As the NHLs biggest player asset there should absolutely be something done to prevent stupid poop like that from happening. McDavid is doing the league's job for them while attempting to protect himself from idiocy.
Basic stuff like this should not be rationalized away just because a player plays for a different team than your own. Human decency and all that.

Pretty sure we're not saying he should never get touched but that the people who are calling him a whiner for calling out bush league plays are imbeciles. Tanev is beat, much like Gio was a few years back and had no reason to make that play. What happens if he goes into Markstrom the wrong way and Markstrom misses half the year (Ala the Roli incident in the 06 final). Is that McDavid's fault? No, it's the bush league defenseman's fault for making a bone headed desperation play when he's already beat. - Slappywaggle

If I'm Tanev and the best player in the world walks around me I might have to just accept that and hope my goalie bails me out. The alternative is...make a cheap shot play that not only endangers McDavid, but also my own goaltender. Sorry. That's bush league, just like Giordano. Maybe if a guy gets a breakaway opponents should throw their sticks and helmets to prevent a goal. How about a sniper on the bench with a paintball gun? Clowns. - HockeyBuzzed

He should go even a little more Cloutier.
Maybe get a few more hits
As for McDavid, he basically said he wants penalties to be called when they occur. I wouldn't really call it whining, but whatever. Everyone is entitled to see it how they want. |

McDavid is a whiner, the Sun is hot, and water is wet.
Self-evident things that shouldn't need any further explanation. |

Bwahaha, that is rich. Tanev was not in the play until the last minute, and he intended to cut off McD from making the cut to the net. You want to cut to the net, expect a D-man to actually attempt to prevent it. A better strategy would be to stand him up, not try to cut him off, but this was a pre-season game and not worth the extra hit. And yes, he will get hit. As he should. Save those last second cuts for the skill display shoot outs. He may get tripped, leveled, clipped or other. plays deemed legal by the refs. In this case, there wasn't a delayed penalty call. Maybe it should have been and maybe it should have been called a dive, as is sometimes the case. I have seen more blatant trips called as a dive.

If Connor was on your team and the same play happened you would think differently. Get a brain and stop wearing your rose colour glasses.

LMAO, c'mon man. If players are just expected to let players walk around them, why not make it 60 minutes of breakaway drills. If McDavid's gonna cut hard to the net and has to pay a price, he's gonna think twice about it next time.
And it would be hard to even say that Tanev had any intent there anyways.

Rose colour glasses... So if Tkachuk was cutting to the net and scored on your goalie, you'd just throw your hands up and say "Oh gosh, he certainly deserved that goal. Good luck Flames, you sure are good."
It's a fast play, it's not intent/malice like crosschecking a guy in the teeth or anything.
Be upset that a penalty wasn't called, but let's not treat this like Tanev was the man on the grassy knoll. |

Trevor, you are an idiot. Hockey is changing and that was a dangerous play period. So what would you think if Mcdavid came up with his skates after being trip like that and gets Markstrom in the neck? Did you think of that? Of course not. Re-evaluate your thinking - flyfish1168
And what if McDavid took a wicked slapper, his stick went up and clipped a guy in the teeth? Accidents do happen, and that wouldn't even be a penalty in today's NHL. |

The game wasn't decided by momentum changes, it was decided by crummy goaltending. If the Flames got the same caliber of game out of Markstrom that the Oilers got out of Koskinen there wouldn't have been a comeback. |
