Murphy and DeHaan were the 2 most out of position Dmen on the Hawks

And the are in year 3 of his "system'

There is no system. You don't look like that if there is one.

There has not been any improvement in bench management in 3yrs.

And his roster choices are brutal. Mitchell has been overwhelmed since he stepped on NHL ice. Zero reason for him to get that many chances over 1st rounder Beaudin (who played for CAN in the Worlds in the off season)

But his hand picked Gus is going to get plugged in soon.

He is awful

couldn't agree more. Team was totally unprepared. everyone chasing the puck looked like the last Pee Wee game i reffed.

I’m on the fence on Colliton, we will find out this year if he’s a keeper or not. Let’s not forget that they played the best team in the league on the road, and played them fairly even the last two periods. I for one do not determine or forecast what this team will or will not accomplish this season based on one game.

Not me, I'm not making excuses. I never thought of Jones as a #1 and worth all that money. And his brother was a stupid idea too. But he wasn't right last night. A lot of it had to do with the speed of colorado which can make a guy look foolish. But it did also look like maybe his skates weren't right as well. He didn't get better all night. Perhaps I'm used to seeing Jones play against the hawks where he had better partners. That goes for Johnson as well.

Jones is the worst defensemen in the history of the nhl. Don’t forget it or try to point out anything he does positive because the Jones hate club will squash that narrative quickly. And Johnson. And Gus.

Amazingly nobody here got a job in a front office. That alone is the biggest shocker coming out of opening night.

Yep. They played the best team on the road.

Picked to win the Cup

And vs the best line on that team, in the 1st period of this emotional game, he felt best to KEEP his 4th line (on a non playoff team) with a rookie making his opening night debut.

Colliton felt that put the Hawks in the best position to succeed.

I think we play the Rangers soon, yes i know they gave up 5 goals last night but i could tell they had a new coach just by the structure they had in the dzone, Caps have great structure as well, while we look like a blob in our own end.

In his 3 season opening games, Colliton's Blackhawks are 0-3 and have been outscored 13-6.
So, with an entire offseason and training camp, JC sh*ts the bed.

The Hawks looked like they were in no way ready for this game.. couldn't defend in transition.. my god, the error which led to the Johnson goal..

This team is better than last year, but still have a lot of work to do.

JC must go. This is not reactionary to losing the first game vs a VERY good Avs team.. he was/is never the guy to lead you in a deep playoff run, so why waste time? Get the right guy in and let them install their own systems.

I'm not saying that Gallant or Torts would instantly turn this team into a contender, but they are coaches that have the potential to get you there. JC does not even get you a seat at the table, so why waste the time?

Who/what are the Hawks waiting for?

Saw what I expected would happen against the Avs.

That 6-8 minute stretch in the first where we gave up 3 goals killed us. We looked awful. The first period was pretty bad. Spacing was terrible, which caused bad passes and lots of turnovers. Other than 2 players tripping over each other, the Avs caught us in a line change on that first one.

Not jumping on the hate JC bandwagon but not the best coached game. Some may have to do with all the new faces. The 1st Avs goal was a line change gaff and the Av's power play right after our goal in the first for too many men was not great either. Also it might have been better for JC to take our 4th line off the ice when that whistle was blown with Avs top line out there as a few have mentioned.

Had Dach scored on one of his 3 prime chances, it might have been a different game amazingly. I felt that Kemper had a strong game, especially during that 3-4 minute stretch at the end of the game when we had the power play.

Kane looks like he's still injured. Seemed a step behind his normal self.

Right now we are light years away from being the Avs but heck its game 1 on the road with many new faces against a contender. They still need time to gel.

Not going to defend, it was bad, but I want to see the first 10-15 games before calling for heads. I hate Johnson playing between ADB and Kane. I actually hate Kane and ADB on the same line because once in the defensive zone, they can't get the puck out. I see ADB and his "improved" 200 foot game still throws blind cross ice passes 3 feet from inside the defensive blueline to Kane that are picked off more times than the puck even gets close to Kane's stick.

Might as well play Stillman with S. Jones. deHaan was picked on every time. Colorado attacked his side of the ice, either carrying the puck in as well as chip and chase. No wonder Seattle just picked Quenville, at least they don't have the salary burden.

Hagel was Hagel. Kurashev and Borgstrom were non-entities out there, but it was game 1. Mitchell wasn't bad

Although I am not the biggest Dach fan, as someone mentioned, he got the chances, that is all you can ask. He wasn't the problem, was happy with his game.

Again, I agree ti was bad, but I will give it 10-15 games (or the 4 games they gave Savard.)

Well I wasn't able to watch the game last night since I'm still gainfully employed and had to get up early this morning.

I've read the stats, both the simple math and fancy ones. Seen some replays and read some eye witness accounts.

If I understand this correctly, the Hawk defense might as well had Yakety Sax playing in the background as they looked like a scene from Benny Hill. Dach still can't finish even on the rare occasions he's healthy. Colliton is an idiot. Patty Kane looks to just be playing out his contract.

Should be a fun season.

You can take another 100-150gms....but they shouldn't be in the NHL

This guy has done this over and over again.

The entire bench knows it.

It's why Keith & Seabrook immediately called him out for it. It's why Toews rolls his eyes at him.

It's been since his first year here and never inproved.

Playoffs vs EDM. EDM is puck with McD and Leon on ice.

He puts out Nylander, Strome and Maata. All the same time. Playoff game. McD immediately on faceoff goes coast to coast for a goal.

Lesson never learned

When teams scout/prepare for the Hawks they know they own the Hawks bench.

Not putting his team in position to succeed. Hasn't learned how to manage a bench.

The old guard knew it. The new guys will see it quick. The young guys don't develop.

It’s JC’s system that the Hawks handle the puck like a grenade in their own zone.

Not saying he’s a bust. He can get chances. Finishing them has been another story. So is it confidence or a lack of finishing talent? That’s usually the dividing line between the top 6 and top 9 guys. Ability to score consistently.

And people thought Johnson would play wing…..

- SteveRain

Keumper made some nice saves. At least he's generating chances and was a player who stood out in a positive way when he was on the ice.

At least the Avs understand this is the most important area to defend on the ice

Its a weak division but 15 games is certainly too many. Its not like this game showed anything different from the past 3 years. All the same problems.
-cant break out
-poor passing (mainly because they have no shape and no one knows where anyone is or supposed to be)
-guys chasing the puck like 5 years olds (contributing factor to the above)
-not protecting the net
-weak shots from the boards and one and done

Puck management was horrid. Players quickly passing the puck to center ice without even looking at times, only to have the puck hit an avs player or the intended pass to not connect.

Jones was bad. So were a lot of others. Put Jones with McCabe. Playing dehaan with Murphy or even stillman and/or Mitchell until kalynuk is back. Dehaan is a disaster.

Agreed on JC system. What is the one constant variable since he’s been here and hawks get trains run on them in their own end? His crap
System he’s in love with.

If you read here long enough, you will get the picture: every player Stan obtains is awful, but would be stars if they had Q as coach. To many here, this band of mostly bad players they relentlessly bash would be a playoff team with a different coach.

On the start of the game.... No question they weren't ready to play. I read here that this is the coach's fault. My question is, what does a professional sports coach do to have his team start fast? Does he need a better Rockne speech? Why isn't it each player's responsibility to be ready to go at the start of the game? They get paid, no?

I am not married to JC, and I am not a relative of his. I said in the offseason that I want him to focus on team defense (unlike Dots, I believe defense includes forwards). If that doesn't happen, he should be gone.

In Columbus it appeared to me that Jones was not the guy supporting his partner but was the guy being supported. So when the hawks traded for him I did not think Jones was the right fit. And I won't even get started on that contract. But it's only fair to give it a chance, and one game isn't it.

I had my skates forever cuz I didn't like breaking in new ones. But eventually I had to get new blades and I chose Tuik blades. But they weren't mounted on the exact same angle and I was a sloppy ass mess out on the ice for a while until I got used to it. That's what Jones looked like to me last night. And the Avs speed wasn't helping. His footwork was brutal to go with everything else happening.

System management is in love with. If management recognizes that the system is awful, why haven't they told him to run a different one or fire him if he won't? Because he is running the system management wants to run. Maybe he sucks at getting the players to run it.
