New blog! Thoughts on how to view the Blackhawks season opening 4-2 loss to the Avalanche. Was it more than just a bad 10-minute span in the 1st period?

I was wondering why a major was not called, taking a run at someone in a vulnerable position.

I mean it IS an awful trade and a horrible contract. I don't know why this team refused to stay the course ad properly rebuild. I love Dach but you needed more.
- BINGO!

I don’t mind dealing for a #1 defenseman at the time they did. After they apparently soured on Boqvist, there wasn’t a potential #1 anywhere in the system - meaning, if they counted on getting one in the draft, 4-5 years before having one ready to take over (you can’t count on getting quick-studies like Makar in the draft).

Whether or not Jones is “the guy” - well, we’ll see. It looks doubtful that he’ll be a Norris finalist again, but he may turn out to be a legitimate#1 defenseman. Hi price given up, contract too-long and too-pricey, yeah - but he’s here now - all we can do is hope he is “the guy” at some reasonable level.

System management is in love with. If management recognizes that the system is awful, why haven't they told him to run a different one or fire him if he won't? Because he is running the system management wants to run. Maybe he sucks at getting the players to run it.

BS. The is no one in the front office with enough knowledge to dictate what system to run. Stan never played or coached at a significant enough level to understand the nuances. MacIsaac has some playing background and some asst. coaching time, but he's mostly a front office guy. Exactly who in the front office would be dictating style of play. Thats just a fallacy.

Who will be the lucky goalie called upon to face New Jersey? Think they'll come back with Fleury in game 2. However, will be interesting to see how much action Lankinen gets as the backup this year. If the team is slow out of the gate this season, I suspect Lanky might play a little more than originally anticipated. Not saying things WILL turn south quickly, but Lankinen should be prepared and ready to go.

I was thinking this same thing this morning and I assumed Fleury will play game 2, but I wouldn't be shocked either if Lankinen gets a game. I just think the coaches know they need to get wins to keep their job and going back to Fluery is the safer bet.
