I like what Madden said on his show today.... If DOC sits after being one of the better players in camp, what kind of message does that send to other young guys? - madmike71
This happens all the time. If there are not spots there are not spots.

Lafferty blows. He shouldn't be playing over DOC. |

Doc should not be sitting over Lafferty. Yea a full healthy lineup he might not be able to crack. But not right now. |

Agreed and I don't think that will happen, but it also depends if he can play his off-wing.

As of right now Lafferty should be sitting. - 668710
Absolutely. Just saying if they dont intend on playing DOC they should send him down to play and get reps in and not sit upstairs and watch. |

If this is the route they are going then they should send DOC down for top line and top PP mins in AHL instead of up in the box watching. - MattStrat
He'll be there shortly, just as soon as Sid or ZAR is back. |

It's a good point. Getting younger and bigger is supposed to be a goal, and DOC did his part. Should certainly play over Lafferty.
And no offense to guys like ERod, Simon, and Boyle who are ok NHL players, but we pretty much know what they are. I'd rather see if the young guy can carry over his camp and be a little more, but it doesn't look like he or any other young player will get a fair chance. |

So what's the motivation when 3 guys are out and the coach would rather play Sam Lafferty over a young guy most people feel has earned a look? |

Simon is the other wing who can play either side about the same. Lafferty is just flat out being chosen over DOC. |

I really didn't read the genesis of the conversation. Is Lafferty getting played over DOC?

From Taylor Hassle:
Penguins' lines/pairings at practice:
Guentzel-Carter-Rust
Zucker-Rodrigues-Kapanen
McGinn-Blueger-Heinen
Lafferty-Boyle-Simon
Dumoulin-Letang
Pettersson-Marino
Friedman/Joseph/Ruhwedel rotating
Aston-Reese/O'Connor/Crosby not skating on any line. Seems like Guentzel will play
Looks like DOC is odd man out already. Sucks to be behind Lafferty. - Tojo.
Ahh, I missed this. This would be ridiculous.

Simon looks like a better player than when he last played for us. Maybe he'll be a late bloomer like Dupuis. |

Jon Cooper: “We could have played Pittsburgh’s farm team and it might have been the same result.”
LMAO. Watched the replay last night. He's right Tampa didn't play hard. That's on him, but don't forget they lost five guys worth $20M. |

This was supposed to happen a year earlier but they got super lucky with a shortened season and Kuch being out. |

True, I'm not trying to throw Simon under the bus. Just want to see more of DOC.
ERod, Simon, Boyle I think are spots 11-13 when Sid, Jake, and ZAR return so those are the guys DOC needs to jump over. And I'm not sure that he does, I'd just like to give him the chance to find out. |

So did we and then some
Props to the Pens for playing well, but even with a suspect bottom 6 Tampa should have rolled over the line-up we used. |

Can't help but feel this is going to be a totally different scene tonight. If the Panthers start this season anything like the one that ended last season they'll be atop, or close to it, the standings most of this season. They won't have a cup hangover or banner raising. They'll know what happened two nights ago in Tampa and coach Q will have them ready. Also, the Pens are on day 3 in the sunshine and beaches...hardly dressed beautiful ladies around...hopefully they didn't go too hard after the game Tuesday night or last night.
Ideally to me starting this season a split on these first two hard road games would of been great, another win tonight would just be gravy before the 8 game homestand with the missing personnel the Pens have. |

Gotta give Pittsburgh it's credit for their forecheck. They completely smothered Tampa into making quick decisions and limiting their ability to run and gun up the middle of the ice. |
