Because watching it made me feel awkward as all hell. I had empathy for Liljegren having to endure that on opening night in front of a packed house and millions of TV viewers.

Maybe, I guess I just don't get phased with stuff like that. The only guy that's going to remember that in a few days is the guy who said it.

I'd wager that Liljegren will probably remember it for a bit, considering it's the first time he's been announced as a member of a 23 man NHL roster to start the season.

At the time, Dubas thought the cap was going up each of the next years...

Fans are so hard on Dubas.. So, Suziki at 7.8 is a good deal and Marner, 3rd in the league in scoring, is a bad deal at 10.9.... OK

- bixll

I never said Suzuki at 7.8 was a good deal....I think it could become OK, but hes nowhere close to Marner, and not even at Nylanders level right now.

Marner is clearly overpaid, Rantanen signed for 9.5M that same year for the same term. Rantanen is a very good comparable for Marner, and closer to what he should have gotten.

Dubas is a poor negotiator, thats pretty clear, and im not a Dubas hater by any stretch, for the most part ive supported him.

All the time on here.

Which is unfair to the girl because she is a fine singer...Some are just jealous she has a good gig with the Leafs I assume.

That 5on3 was pretty impressive.

I do think that if the opposing team had higher end talent, their aggressiveness killing the 5on3 would have been exploited though.

By far the most concerning thing of the night was when the camera zoomed in on Liljegren and the announcer introduced Ilya Mikheyev. I've never seen someone look so uncomfortable.

How does that happen with a 1st rate franchise like this?

- TheMussel

I'm sure that elite teams like Tampa and Boston that also have set plays where they know where each other are and where to go make quick reliable passes might find a way to exploit that PK - but their previous passive penalty killing approach drove me nuts - especially when you saw how well an aggressive PK worked against us - and this is an elite offensive team.

If you give a team time to setup and space to maneuver, they'll score about 22% of the time, according the results!

Boston and Carolina apply an aggressive PK, and teams score at about a 15% clip against them. We could argue personnel, but I think strategy plays a pivotal role there just as much.

I’m willing to bet $40 of Bixill’s money that it’s the last deal Bergevin signs as Hab’s GM.

Bogo out 4-6 weeks. This eases the pain of not re-signing him a bit.

Dermott Liljegren tonight?

- mr.sir

I didn't think much of Dermott's game yesterday. I guess you'd call it a quiet game, but he did get caught out of position a few times - some occasions more noticeable. Sandin had his moments - that pass to Nylander right low in the slot in the second period or perhaps late first, I think it was, was pretty sweet and smart.

If we're going to play the kids, we have to give them some room to make mistakes without immediately sitting them. They're going to have to get up to NHL speed in game action. I think Liljegren is going to deserve the same opportunity, for what it's worth.

Does he play tonight?

Much like Suzuki. The contract is currently an overpay, but could turn into good value.

I think it could be OK, certainly not a steal for him. He could grow into it, but i still have my doubts he will ever be a 1st line centre.

I don't see the same room for progression in Tkachuk's game personally.

Makes you wonder how much they'll have to give Norris and Stutzle next if they already pay Tkachuk more than Svechnikov...
