Pretty safe to say Matthews is a better player so he could demand more and get it.

And yes he’s leaving Toronto I’m sure of it.

- Dozzer

Let's bet $200 on it.

It is just your opinion... How are you so sure ?? And, if you are..... Bet me.

Ottawa does not want him to sit.
- Santo_44

So make the contract shorter and pay him less or pay him more if you want the contract longer.

This is all it is. And Ottawa made their choice.

The bolded is precisely what I’m saying. Holy poop do you read my posts?

Pay him more if you want the long term or make the contract shorter if you want to pay him less.

- Dozzer

Why would Ottawa want to pay him less in the years they will suck?

If they truly intend to keep him for the next 7-8 years they will have to pay around the same amount regardless of a bridge or long term contract.

A bridge deal should have never been in the cards for Ottawa unless they were using it as negotiation tactic.

Leafs paid $7m to Willie after 20-22 goals and Tkachuk had no one near as good for linemates as Willie had.
- Garnie

Willy had more points in his first two full seasons, and quite frankly plays less minutes, including PP time (couldnt find these numbers to prove that). Brady isnt close in skill level to Willy.

It's not technically gambling if it's a sure thing though.

He hasn’t said anything to me but I have a feeling the state of the team will be a significant factor.

Anyone saying they are sure of what a player will decide in 3 years is (frank)ing ignorant

If you were correct they would have signed him in the summer.

What I’m saying is being openly reported.

(frank) me I should just start locking threads because you guys are stubborn as hell some days

Brady does bring in a completely different aspect to the game.

Then again, we all know by now (I think) how good Nylander is in important moments.

Love that player.

Well, 55ish point pace last year. On a bad Sens team. His point totals will likely increase just from the Sens as a team getting better.

I really don't know how to explain to some of you guys that 22 year old players tend to get better - which is what Ottawa is betting on.

They are overpaying (quite significantly) now in the hopes the contract is a good deal in years 3-7 or so. It's a gamble.

I certainly wouldn’t want to play outside my home country on the other side of the continent.

Also he’ll be at the point where he’ll expect the full 20% of the cap and the leafs won’t want to do it but a team in the states will.

I realize they're HOPING he BECOMES worth it. Sometimes that works, sometimes not. I don't see it happening in this case. He's just not a point per game type player, and he'll need to become pretty close to that, to earn an 8+ contract. i think he tops out as a 60 to 65 point player, at peak.

Also, I'd think people would learn by now, playing for a better team doesn't necessarily boost point totals. There are all sorts of players that leave for other teams because they're buried behind better players. IF Ottawa gets better (I don't exactly see a lot of elite potential players there....), he'll also naturally get less prime ice. I could easily see him ending up on a second line. He's not the kind of player that is a lock for teams first line. You want the guys that produce on your top line, and especially your PP. Being a pest doesnt' really help on the PP.

That means nothing to Matthews... The issue that YOU won't... He is in the hockey capital on the world... I don't get your take. But, fine. We will see in 4 years.

All I ask is you don't say your opinions as facts, clearly others don't like this also.
