I watched the Predators vs. Kraken game last night, the Kraken are a lot better than some might give them credit for, they played a very good game. They had the Predators on their heels most of the game. By the time Monday rolls around, the Kraken would have played 3 games to the Flyers 1, advantage Kraken!

This is why I was surprised we traded Myers. Made more sense once Risto was picked up though.

I was most upset that we lost Phil this summer but you have to give to get. I think he’s going to be very good someday.

There simply aren’t any gimmes in the league. If the flyers don’t show up they’ll lose. Simple as that.

Read that Atkinson has scored in 6 straight season openers. Hope he keeps the steel going.

Thoughts on Mcavoy extension?
- arichardson22

I don't think any team can win when they put this much cap into 1 player. MacAvoy is a very good defenseman, but does he do that much more than say Ryan Ellis at $6.25M per? When you are trying to build a contender in a flat cap league, I'm not sure this is how you do it. With that said, MacAvoy is a good player and I'm sure he must be quite happy right now!

Hockey season is too long. Glad it’s starting but it should be over in April at the latest.

I predict a playoff team that gets bounced in the second round.

Haha. I bet he is. At 23.

Can you build a strong contender if you pay 3 forwards 33 mil and a 4th close to 7? Asking for a friend haha.

Myers played similar to two years ago. Paired with ekholm. Didn’t see the whole game but he did get away with a boarding on Eberle. Seems like he is keeping it simple so far which is what he has to do.

As far as the other poster. I think Myers is where he needs to be. Second pairing with a vet presence.

Yes. See the last ten years of cup champions. Maybe St. Louis was the only one without a 9 mil contract. But they did have Alex p. And a good cast. Went rolling at the right time.

One ok. For a superstar. 3? With the cap where it is you can’t put a team around those players. 19 players have to split the remaining 40 mil. Hard to do. You have to cut corners.

I also notice some real contenders tend to get their core players on team friendly deals. Look at Bergeron in Boston.

It's the way the league is going. Every team is gonna have 3-4 (young) guys eating 30-40% of the cap.

Salary parity is gonna slowly die. Gonna be a handful of guys making most of the dough, and depth players, old guys and non-elite kids will have to be happy dividing up what's left.

This is what I always applaud Lou for doing. He is able to get key players locked up long term for reasonable deals.

Speaking of deals. Everyone has talked about RR next contract. Potluck has to help our case. I would think anyway.

But agree. Too many big contracts can hurt. But depends on who those are given too. I. E. Tampa. Pitt. Wash.

That pair had a hell of a game. They didn't allow a single scoring chance against the entire game at ES. Kraken couldn't get anything done when they were on the ice.

Soon other things may have to change to accompany this. Yes I know the cap will eventually go up. But maybe maxes on the second deals. Or a younger age to hit ufa status.

Do you think the cap will be going up significantly soon? I think that’s the gamble here. Some teams think it’ll go up to 90 or 100 maybe? I don’t know.

You watch the game or checking the stats? Just curious.

As Myers does he got beat wide a few times from what I saw but recovered or was covered well by his partner. Nashville forwards were right there as well. I didn’t watch past the second.

I’m a bit old school. I think you can pay your core players that if they have shown the track record that includes playoff success. Kane toews Keith Tampa stars pitt. I just find it hard to pay young players 10 or 11 mil before they have proven at least that they can deliver deep in the playoffs.

Of note. I’m very happy coots took a bit less to allow us to try to put a quality team around him. That’s what you’ll need nowadays imo.

Part of me just thinks they should set it at a number and leave it. 100 would be fine. The can be assess every 3 or 5 years. Or be couples with the CBa negotiations. Will be easier for gms to possible forecast

Not that it really matters but I wonder how that Macavoy extension sits in the locker room. Pasta could have got a huge extension but chose to give the team flexibility.

True. Re structure aspects for the next cba.
