Just send him to Calgary. Zary, Monahan, Dube, 1st. Don’t let Monahan in the building, ship him off (50% retained) anywhere for a first and decent prospect. |

Monahan (50% retained) for Korczak and a first
Full return Zary, Dube, Vegas first, cal first, and Korczak. Could do a lot worse |

Unfortunately if they want to get this done sooner than later they might have to retain some. - Buff36
Cap gurus, can the "annoying" Sabres (love it!) retain salary on, say, year one only? |

Believe it carries through the whole contract, so if the Sabres did it, I wouldn't hold more than a mill or 2. Think the hard part with that will be year 4 and 5 |

It almost sounds as if teams want to get him on the cheap and save $$$ on his cap hit. Which isn't surprising..
Screw 'em. |

Agree, personally I wouldn't do it, but if the Bill's want this done quickly it something they might need to do. |

Big diff between this and ROR is that this doesn't need to be done quickly. The sooner the better but they need Jack's contract this season |

The above just barely works from the Sabres perspective of hitting the cap floor, as they would still have work to do to get there.

I have questions though:
- Is Monahan waiving his NTC, as it seems likely the Sabres are on his 10 team no trade list?
- By taking Dube and Monahan from the Flames, you are taking 2/3 of their 2nd line
- With Eichel out 3-4 months until he's ready to play again, are the Flames going to be ok with taking a 3 to 4 month hit in their chances to win this season by losing 2/3 of their 2nd line, until Eichel returns?
An Eichel deal is far from being remotely easy. |

Well true, and hate to say this, but you have to think about the injury and you really don't want the disc's around the injured one starting to weaken and fail. |

Check what I just posted about the Calgary Flames deal proposed earlier this morning, just as an example of the massive complexity the cap plays in an Eichel trade for both the Sabres and the team trading for Eichel. |

The max I'd be willing to retain on Eichel would be $2M, but it better really be worth it.
That would effectively mean that while the cap goes up a million each of the next few seasons, the Sabres cap would not go up until 3 season from now. |

He had a couple of good chances tonight, he’ll start scoring soon.
Watch, Reinhart will score a hatty Tuesday in TB, ...I wonder if Ion will throw his hat

Agreed. Calgary's a good example. However, it might also depend on how good they realistically believe their team is. The Flames aren't near Cup. Vegas is though. Anaheim is way away. But a healthy Jack takes them a large step closer. Arizona could pull a Sabres/E. Kane move and take a huge step forward next year. Granted, I didn't dissect their rosters and cap situations but gotta finf the right trade partner |

Finding the right trade in season is a nightmare.
If Calgary isn't trying to win, which they are (check their coach), then what are they doing with Johnny Hockey and Matt Tkachuk after this season? Not easy.
Find $10M in players coming back from Vegas that make sense from all angles (both teams cap, Vegas injury situation, Vegas trying to win, players having trade clauses).
Sure, a healthy Eichel moves Anaheim much closer to being a winning team, but being a winning team likely would start next season with Eichel's 3-4 month recovery time.
That would likely mean the Ducks 2022 1st is off the table. Is Henrique willing to waive his NTC for Buffalo? Would the Sabres even want him? How would the Sabres hit the cap floor in a Ducks trade?
An Eichel trade is brutal to try and figure out, which is why teams have been asking about the Sabres being willing to retain on Eichel. |
