I can't see them going very far. Then Johnny Hockey's gone. Possibly Tkachuk too. - Michael Pachla
Agreed on their overall chances, but their goal for this season is to try and win, and it's likely that you're asking them to forego their chances this season with an Eichel trade. |

Forgot to mention: Eichel is close with Johnny Hockey.
Might increase Calgary's chances of him signing an extension if they bring in Eichel. |

I believe rookie bonuses only help the end of season number as that's when they are applied, not in season.
The problem you neglected to mention is the Flames are trying to win right now, this season, and in the trade you suggested, you're replacing their current 2nd line Center and one of their 2nd line wings with nobody for 3-4 months, until Eichel is fully ready.
You're cratering their depth in season, which is why it wouldn't work. - kingcong39
I’m not really neglecting it. There’s really no other way to get Eichel, and they’ve been one of the teams “in” on him. Unless they’ve just been offering subpar futures, which is a possibility. They would need to move cap, Monahan is the easiest to do. I would prefer to sub Dube for Pelletier, doubt they would though, if that helps them “win now”. Think that’s a flaw on their GMs part. They aren’t a team going anywhere |

I believe the bold has been the case all along with every team interested in Eichel. |

He sure would, but you're asking Calgary to throw away this season if you want them to include even 2 of Monahan, Dube, and Mangiapane as they don't have the depth to make that trade and still be good while Eichel takes months to be ready.
The Sabres and Eichel coming to an agreement on the surgery choice this past summer would've been a huge help with making an in season trade. - kingcong39
Most teams that would trade for eichel now, would be sacrificing the season. Calgary is no different.
Maybe the Sabres could wait for a ek9 injured player trade?

The Vegas trade Ion laid out makes a lot of sense in terms of the cap, timing of the trade, and players mentioned. |

Cal-Gary isn't a good fit. Mainly becsuse of nmc, like you mentioned with Lucic. Tkachuk and Zadorov are the only players that add up and I'm not sure that works for either team |

Zadorov is an overrated, overpaid, pending UFA.
Why would the Sabres be interested in him? |

"not sure it works for either team" was the qualifier. Not only for Zads, but Tkachuk too. Just using cap money outside nmc's |

Yeah, uncle ion keeps adding goaloffson in every EICHEL trade.
I shut my eyes at the point and stop reading.
I understand the idea of a team getting a 2 for 1 with olo, but why would we trade a top goal scorer. Goalo is no where near peaked yet IMO. |

The idea of adding Olofsson is so the team trading for Eichel has an immediate impact player and doesn't need to wait 3-4 months for that.
It makes for a team like Vegas who is trying to win it all, but it doesn't mean Olofsson has to be included. |

It's not good business to stomp your feet and rule out anything. For instance, if they hold on to him all season, it's 10 mil they're paying him. If they trade him now with 2 mil retained, it's still 10m.
Six in one 2 dozen in the other
. - Michael Pachla
agreed
but they know more then us
a bad contract for 2 years, say 10 mil total is different in their mind then 2 mil for 5 years retained |

SPORTSNET: Elliotte Friedman reports one of the biggest hurdles to getting a Jack Eichel trade done is the Buffalo Sabres’ unwillingness to retain any portion of his salary. They’re willing to take back some contracts in return but it’s still difficult with the 24-year-old center having four more years with an annual average value of $10 million remaining on his contract.
Friedman believes the Colorado Avalanche made a call to see if they could make it work but the Sabres’ unwillingness to take salary stopped discussions. Jeff Marek said the Vegas Golden Knights were in conversation with the Sabres but were unwilling to part with young center Peyton Krebs.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: I don’t blame the Sabres for not wanting to retain salary. They don’t want to carry what would likely be a significant chunk of dead cap space for the next four seasons. Maybe they might budge a bit if this issue becomes the only sticking point but I think owner Terry Pegula wants Eichel completely off his books.
I’m not sure how much salary the Avalanche would want the Sabres to absorb but it would have to be a healthy chunk given their limited cap space. They’re already using LTIR right now and have over $55.7 million invested in 12 players for 2022-23 with the cap expected to rise by just $1 million to $82.5 million.
As for the Golden Knights, Eichel would be an ideal fit there but they too don’t have much cap room and would need the Sabres to retain some salary in the deal to make it work. Their unwillingness to move Krebs also seems a deal-breaker.

This is exactly what I was saying. Teams think they can get him for pennies on the dollar when top pieces aren't involved and they want salary retained

After years of neglect I think the Amerks are finally going to have a good team. I think this is going to be very important once the waves of prospects start showing up from the last couple of drafts.

Sooner than later something will have to be done with Jack's neck. You do not want the disc's around the herniated disc to start weakening or going bad, or we will never be able to trade him. |

Friedman at the intermission says a major hurdle in an Eichel trade is that the Sabres are not willing to retain any salary, they are willing to take bad contracts on, but won't retain anything. - GilPerreault11 Good. They absolutely shouldnt.
Tell teams they can go sign next years "PHILLIP DANAULT" for 5.5 million instead.
