they only have like 6 real prospects on the roster right now

Right, but I think that's how most teams operate. Nobody has a team full of prospects. My point is that they shouldn't be overrun like they have in years past (especially when TMGM was in town).

He did, but I think the string of injuries that we had depleted Rochester. Hopefully that doesn't happen again.

Finding the right trade in season is a nightmare.
If Calgary isn't trying to win, which they are (check their coach), then what are they doing with Johnny Hockey and Matt Tkachuk after this season? Not easy.
Find $10M in players coming back from Vegas that make sense from all angles (both teams cap, Vegas injury situation, Vegas trying to win, players having trade clauses).
Sure, a healthy Eichel moves Anaheim much closer to being a winning team, but being a winning team likely would start next season with Eichel's 3-4 month recovery time.
That would likely mean the Ducks 2022 1st is off the table. Is Henrique willing to waive his NTC for Buffalo? Would the Sabres even want him? How would the Sabres hit the cap floor in a Ducks trade?
An Eichel trade is brutal to try and figure out, which is why teams have been asking about the Sabres being willing to retain on Eichel. - kingcong39
Sabres can find dying cap elsewhere
I'm willing to bet the Coyotes would part with Shayne Gostisbehere. Even if the Sabres waive him, there's $3.5m, or $4.5 if they dont |

Vegas isn't doing that deal until their injured players (Paccioretty and Stone) are back, right?
That could be nearly 2 months, which would be say early December at best, and then add 3-4 months for an Eichel recovery, assuming the Sabres will not budge on the surgery.
Could work. - kingcong39
Why would VKG want to wait further if their key wingers are hurt now though?
It would seem to me that they would want to replace the loss of production as quickly as possible.
Olofsson atatistically gives them that, and VGK probably needs more of it
Furthermore, Tuch is out long-term on LTIR at $4.75m. They actually pick up an additional $5.25m on Jack's $10m LTIR credit they can then use to plug another hole if desired. Here I agree, that timing in a Kucherov manner for Eichels expected return date will be crucial in managing the Cap during the Regular Season.
Now, filling other gaps with low cost, relatively productive assets will be key for VGK...Sabres have some guys in Girgs, Eakin, Asplund, Bjork that might work there ... but better yet, could VGK go shopping with that extra $5.25m?
There should be a deal there to be made that helps them both short and long term...IMO of course. |

Hello Andrew Shaw, but what you're saying is the Sabres would need to make another deal first, and then an Eichel deal, to make sure they're cap compliant.
Sure, seems easy...
Also, the part you bolded is from the Vegas perspective as they cannot take on $10M in cap long term and only send back half that. |

Good. They absolutely shouldnt.
Tell teams they can go sign next years "PHILLIP DANAULT" for 5.5 million instead. - Mentalorgasm5

If the Sabres need to retain a little on Eichel to get an excellent return, they need to consider it. |

Would Vegas be getting any NHL players in a 3 way deal that would not be on the IR for months?
I'm guessing that would need to happen from their perspective. |

Perhaps I need to put on a pot of coffee, fire up capfriendly and start working on a 3-way deal
Let's just say the Yotes and the GKs are the ones involved. Tuch plus Ghost gets the Sabres to $9.25
From there, it's a matter of making the other two teams happy, and getting the Knights compliant |

Are they getting an excellent return though.
It seems that teams are unwilling to give up any top prospects in any deal.
"Nope, top prospects are off the table, period.
And
You need to take a Cap dump
No, no...not THAT Cap dump, this one here...but, you need to retain several million too.
Oh ya, almost forgot about the conditions too, no those could be a bit rough for you because of this huge favor we are doing you.
Hurry, up though Kevyn, this deal doesn't stay open for long"
F them.

Also, if the GKs take on Eichel, couldn't they just LTIR him until the playoffs and use that space to negotiate the cap, and then Eichel shows up like Kucherov for game 1? |

They could, but I suspect Krebs is the bigger sticking point. You can always make the dollars work.

To Vegas: Eichel
To Buffalo: Tuch, two conditional 1sts, Krebs, Gostisbehere
To AZ: rights to Pilut
Eichel shows up for game one of the playoffs. |

Some gm desperate for a cup run is going to anti up.
Eichel needs to get healthy and there will be plenty of suitors.
The kuchorov IR "blueprint" is a perfect fit to circumvent the cap.
Let's be realistic, only a playoff bound team is gonna try and acquire eichel, unless it's for next season and a bargain trade. ( which it will not be) |
