It’s all hearsay.
I don’t care what he told some AHL call up.
If I was that player I’d use it as motivation, probably what Babs was intending. A good coach doesn’t want you to like him, he wants you to get pissed off so you can use it as fuel. - Arctic_AARDVARK
Yep, that kind of mind (frank) manipulation technique worked really well for Scotty Bowman back in the day. He (frank)ed with players all the time and got away with and his teams won championships. Of course he had some great teams. If your only way to fuel players, to motivate them is to (frank) them over, you’re not going to last long in today’s league or society. I don’t care where it is. |

Have to say our young D have been decent. Nothing too glaring on the negative side. Should be even better with a steady diet of consecutive games. |

Jesus. Are they buying the Dodgers?!
They have $65 committed including estimated arbitration cases, I thought I'd read. That would be insane (in the membrane). |

bumhole coaches are long gone.
Owners know who makes them money, owners know that bumhole coaches keep hockey stats from wanting to play for their team, so bumhole coaches get tossed.
It’s no longer 20 years ago, keeping the players happy is a crucial requirement set by the owners of the teams - Dozzer
The pendulum swings back and forth. There’s a bit of a softening of the game these past few years, but it’ll swing back at some point.
Fwiw, Keefe isn’t exactly Mr Nice Guy. Q, Torts, Trotz, Green, Maurice, Berube… These guys don’t want to be your friend, and I’m sure many of their former players hate their guts.

Nah, thats just crapping on him to make him feel bad.
So many others things he could have said or done....or not done. He didnt need to say anything, let the guy have a moment. |

Yeah, that's the part where I think we completely agree - we need to some of that. Something to show that he hasn't come up with ONE strategy that he helps will always work.
I call that "The Berezin".
You have ONE MOVE. That's it. One. People will totally fall for it for a bit. In the 90's they fell for it for about 4 years. Then they caught on and it was useless.
My son, when he was six years old, was the fastest runner on the field. He caught on to this and in soccer he would kick the ball down field (remember six year olds play in packs, so there's no positional play at ALL) and race everyone down field, winning the race to the ball. The pack would race behind him along the line, and then he'd centre the ball to himself, where he would win the race to the middle, and score. He'd do this like . . . 5 or 6 times a game.
His soccer career came to crashing end as soon as one kid learned not to join the pack. His Berezin moment over. - Monkeypunk
Still, a great play to come up with.
Even if it was short lived. |

That’s nothing more than a guess. With Babcock there’s openly stated proof made by players and that is much different. |

So I think to try and even the field here and make it clear the way *I* think (and I think a lot of others feel) . . .it's okay to motivate a player by telling them you need more. It's okay to demand more from a professional athlete until they you are unreasonably asking for more than they have in their skillset. You are literally trying to get the best out of them that they can give you. So being demanding is one thing.
Benching players out of petty spite or ego-driven malice is another thing altogether - it's literally unnecessary in a team environment. If your coaching tactic requires that you find one or two players on the team to make a vengeful target of ruining their careers as a way to try and further your agenda, then your agenda is wrong.
Benching someone because they failed to deliver on an expectation or in order to get more out of them is different. |

There’s a difference between trying to be a friend and just treating players with some respect. |

I think its 65 committed plus arb cases. I think.
But they have like $50 coming off the books, so it should be interesting. |

Said the very same thing last night to some friends late in the third. Told them that we are not even going to OT if Freddy was in the cage. Been a softie by now. |

Really? Who's leaked that great news? I had read an article yesterday that said they had to go to ownership next month to discuss budget. |

He absolutely does not.
Like I said, you guys are blind to Willys shortcomings. If Marner did the same things I’d call him out too, and I have in the past. - Arctic_AARDVARK
You're the only blind one here, man.
Or you watch Nylander with one eye closed and Marner with both closed. |

I read yesterday that arb deals for everyone including Vlad, Berrios and Teo would equate to about $115M. Then you've got Ray (or an alternative), Semien and maybe 3B to deal with.
I think about $160'ish would keep the band together. |
