Kapenan looks like dog poop this season. - j.boyd919
Last year the beat fawned over how dialed in Zucker looked during preseason. Jesse Marshall said everyone should put money on Zucker scoring the first goal opening night. And then, you know… Knew I had a bad feeling when they were saying the same thing about Kapanen this season. |

I feel like he was already a candidate for regression but yeah like Tojo said he often looked bad last year and hid it with points of the transition. He just doesn’t look as engaged to me. |

Final line for Teddy Blueger tonight via @NatStatTrick:
18:12 at 5v5
21 shot-attempts for, 3 against
95% control of expected-goals
+63% relative to teammates - Tojo.
ZAR gets most of his goals in tight and I assume the same is true for McGinn. McGinn has been set up quite a few times and he just doesn't finish. He should have at least three goals by now.
Blueger needs to shoot more. I would like to see him let ZAR and McGinn go to the net and just fire away.
That's the only way this line is going to work. They aren't a creative line. |

He looked really engaged in pre season...maybe he got a STD or something on the Florida trip....
Long season yet, and I never expect him to be like a 30/40 for 70 points guy. I think he could sniff around 20/25 g's which would be totally fine for me. Still has 78 games to get there. Also, he was really good with Geno last season...and doesn't have Geno right now. |

Definitely not against trying Zuck and Kap with Sid and leave Guentz and Heinen with Carter. |

In all seriousness though, we have zero clue what's going on in these guys personal lives but they are only human. Long season, yet. |

2-0-2 is a pretty good start all considering. More importantly to me is they are playing a mostly great brand of hockey. Last night might of been their worst performance overall yet but it wasn't that bad either. Bitta slop here and there but they had some great chances to have more than one goal in regulation. |

Anyone else see that Foligno and Dillon tilt last night? I've never seen a player start a fight with a superman punch hahaha |

I watched some bits and pieces of the game since I missed it last night. I thought the Pens played a solid, yet boring game, which I'm fine with right now.
-Jarry was outstanding.
-Matheson was solid in his return. Yes, he made one gnarly turnover but at least he was fast enough to get back and make sure it wasn't a full on breakaway.
-McGinn is going to be an unsung star for this team. Him not having Tanev's speed makes people pass over him, but he does so many things well and the little things right. This will prove to be a solid signing.
-The Carter line was meh, but wasn't bad. We can't expect them to dominate every night, but I was fine with them.
-Kap is really the only disappointing player right now. |

Carter and Zucker looked pretty good together last year, so I'm looking forward to that second line. |

McGinn has been fine, great at retrieving pucks and playing in traffic, but I do wish they would have gotten more of a 2 way player instead of another shutdown type wing with limited offensive potential.
A lot of people want to see Blueger with a more offensively skilled player like Kapanen, but I think he's so good against top lines and eating tough minutes I want to keep him in that role. But that doesn't mean they couldn't have gotten someone who plays responsibly but is also a threat to score 15 or maybe 20 goals. |
