It seems Pegulas have taken a step back from the spotlight.

Vesey's last two, one year only contracts, have been very close to league minimum. And again, that's probably due to him having a couple 12/15 goal seasons and being a name people may recognize.

I’d call Ristolainen a needle mover

He moves it in the wrong direction, but moves it nonetheless

- sbroads24

Take a look at Ristolainen and Hutton. Peeling those negatives out of this roster, combined with whatever the (frank) Eakin is doing rn has a massive positive impact here.

You're stuck on a player while the point is that its a failed organization. Vesey is still in the NHL whether you agree with it or not.

The player you think is average during his best days, turned the Sabres down then they traded for him. That is the point of this discussion.

- washedup20

This is a fair point, but I also think that Buf didn't offer him a contract when he chose to go to the Leafs after his contract expired. I'm not stuck on the player, apart from we are talking about the player. You wanted a list, I gave my input, and you wanted more added to said list. Every year, every org loses players. Out with Vesey, in with Rieder. Out with Rieder, in with Hinestroza. This isn't a unique thing to Buffalo

I think it is ignorant to bash just one person or coach regarding one year of failure. It has been a collective failure with its initial root beginning with Darcy and his wanting the tank and suffering to obtain premium talent that they had never had before besides Hasek and Vanek with the Pegula's ok.

GMTM then wanted to rebuild on the fly with the Pegula's ok and the trading of draft picks. The hiring of a numbers cruncher to be the GM in GMJB who was truly over his head but did draft a few good players perhaps. Ralph was not the coach to hire but to use him as the fall guy during a year he had COVID, the team had COVID, Jack beat up, and then nowhere to be found since he hurt his neck and playing AHL goalies often. Blaming Ralph is like blaming Biden for all of Afghanistan and its perils throughout the 20-year war.

Losing those two specifically is a larger impact than Granato has on this roster compared to your average coach

He's taking a group less talented than last year and somehow they have serious BDE every night under the possession and play driving analytics because he's a good (frank)ing coach and the players buy into the success of the system. We used to make fun of McD's 'trust the process' and we make fun of Kyvyn's 'Guys Who Want To Be Here' but maybe there's actually something to it.

And cutting out the above players ensures we benefit while their respective teams get (frank)ing buried when they play. Not to mention the crater that Staal became. And I'll admit, that one blindsided me. I never thought he fall off the cliff. I'll take that miss.

Well, Hutton for sure, Risto has 79 more games to judge him on after his return from injury. I thought it was the coach who has changed it all here? I know he comes back to his first game and the Risto haters have a field day with a bad dump in trying to rationalize "see, we were right and you were wrong, Risto sucks." Well, 79 more games. What matters is the Sabres got a 1st, a 2nd, Hagg and the GMKA haters might have something to say about that.

Honestly, with this group, I think it's more simply hearing all offseason about how they're going to be a doormat and deciding to do something about it. I still think this team will finish under 500 this season simply due to the fact that a lack of depth absolutely kills you over the span of 82 games, but the motivation factor might make this team watchable over that time period. poop, it might actually make me subscribe to ESPN+ starting tomorrow.

I blame KA for not getting more for Reinhart, Risto for being Risto, Same for Hutton, Ralph for thinking synergistic meetings and not practicing will produce results, Skinner for being a poop under Ralph, Reinhart for only setting up Eichel when Eichel is healthy and only scoring and not setting anyone else up when he's not, Eichel for constantly being hurt or a douche, or a hurt douche. Hall for being a shell while here, Bjork for being traded for Hall, KA for signing Hall and false hope, Montour for not being able to be a RW, er LD, er goalie, BOGO for having coke parties that I wasn't invited to, and finally Dahlin for not winning the Norris as a rookie. Plenty of blame to go around. Just pick which one you want to complain about today.

in 2019-20, the sabres got off to a 9-2-2 start to the season...through the month of october risto was second amongst buffalo defensemen in points with five and had an even +/- rating...

carter hutton was 6-1-1 with the league's 5th-best sv% (.926) and 9th-best gaa (2.21) plus had two shutouts (tied for league lead)

then the bottom fell out

no doubt about it. No one here should have grandiose delusions. And I think they do play with that chip, and they know they're low on the talent totem pole, and they don't have anyone to lean on like Eichel or Reinhart anymore. They know they have to give it their all, and they clearly want to do that for one another. That starts with Kyyvyyyn and Meatballs to instill that set of ideals every day.

He's in a completely different situation in Philly. See how it plays out.

My guess is he's in the playoffs come May.
