Was along the lines of "it's his turn"... and that's fine. If Hart starts two of every three games this season on average, he'll get 55 starts. - bmeltzer
Hart will get two of the three starts in Western Canada after this home stand.
I'm warming to the fact that it's Jones' turn. Still would have ridden Hart. But that's why I'm behind a computer and not the bench.
Let's go boys! |

I think I’d rather see our better option in net in there Saturday vs a very good Florida team.
Had to get Jones in there in one of these first four games. |

Hart had a rough time against Boston last season. But Jones, who hasn't seen the Bruins in a few years minus the preseason this year, struggled against Boston even while playing generally well against the rest of the league during his best years in San Jose (1-3-2, 4.09 GAA, .867 SV%) against Boston for his career.

I think a lot of goalies struggle against the Bruins. The key tonight is getting up in the game early, scoring some goals, being physical and as you stated Bill, staying out of the box as much as possible and killing whatever penalties we do get. Its a good test tonight, but more than that, its a chance for the Flyers to demonstrate that this is a different season and a different team by beating a team that owned the Flyers last year. |

Keep backup in game ready shape, 1 out of 3 or 4 games for Jones is what they want. If they gave Hart this one and the weekend, it would be almost 2 weeks without a game for jones - Shrike
I think the Flyers plan on Jones getting around 30-35 starts this year. Remember it will be a condensed schedule again because of the Olympics. |

Did Ullmark sign with Boston to be a backup? - backfire
No. Ullmark is there to allow their young goalie Swayman to get his legs in the NHL. Bruce Cassidy when asked this question recently answered with one name, Carter Hart! He stated look what happened to Carter Hart last year in Philly. We wanted to be sure we didn't let that happen to Swayman this year. |

I asked AV yesterday about starting Hart with off-days between every game of the homestand and coming off a strong outing on Monday where he made some huge early saves before the Flyers took control. He didn't really say much except that he's going with Jones tonight.
It could work out fine tonight or not work out. We'll see.

I got a bad feeling about this....
Jones has 3 goal hook in play...Or leave him in to let them kick the extra point...Was hoping this guy has a renaissance but there were no signs but poor positioning and a lazy glove that is never up in position in any preseason game.

I forgot how bad the Flyers PK was against Boston last season. They really need to play smart tonight.
Weird how AV couldn't give Bill a clear cut answer for starting Jones. - Pelle31Forever
I liken it to Shero's stock answer of why Bernie wasn't starting on any given night.

Don’t know. Am excited to see Risto plant someone though. He is elusive but the rat will work. |

Getting him ready for when Fedotov comes over in a year or two and wins the starting position. |

Agreed! Depending how Brassard holds up between now and Hayes’ return, I’d consider keeping that line together. And when Kevin returns that line could get some very favorable match ups. |

Yea it’s a bit far away, lot can happen. That third line is just not good. Idk about everyone else but Laughton has been brutal, bad turn overs galore. He’s not helping that line. |

Also agree about Laughton. It could have been all the beers I had opening night but I really didn’t notice him much. 2nd game I noticed him more, but not in a Good way lol |

So in other words the key to tonight is the same as the keys to every game. |
