Christ could the guy get any more wordy and bland for something so simple?

To me it comes down to 2 things.
1. He's not getting as much space as he used to. 2. Now everybody now knows where he prefers to shoot from.

Once he and the team figures out how to create space for him the shooting chances get better.

Clearly you didn't get it. He's saying even if he continues to play exactly at the level he has been through 6 games, which is far from his best, he is projected to produce points at a much higher rate, essentially he has been unlucky this far.

Later in the article he also went into how the Lotto line as a group has been out of sorts, and there is still every reason to believe they will return to form. While they haven't scored at 5v5 yet, they also haven't given up a single goal.

To be honest, I don't think it's an issue of spacing on his shots, he needs to be less hesitant. He looks the same way Boeser did when he came back from his wrist injury.

Oh no, I got it. I just don't believe the puck will magically go in if he continues to play the exact way he has. Goalies and defenders are onto his tendencies.

Fair enough. I just took a bit of solace in the thought that not only is he off his game, but he's had rotten luck as well. He'll figure it out, that's what the best players do. This fanbase should know better than to freak out over him, they had to watch the Sedins slowly work their way up to MVP level.

I think it has more to do with his legs than his hands. He needs to use his speed more to open things up for everyone. To my eyes, I haven't seen the hussle he used to show on both sides of the puck yet.

Also relevant:

The other number that concerns me a bit is the rate of penalties that Pettersson is drawing. I’ve often used a player’s penalties drawn rate as a proxy for how involved they are in and around the puck. It’s like a canary in the coal mine type statistic, especially when evaluating players in their late 20s and early 30s. It’s one of those numbers that begins to decline precipitously if a player’s foot speed falls off.

Now Pettersson isn’t an older player, but he’s been a super elite drawer of penalties ever since he arrived in this league. Watching him play is to watch him get the benefit of the doubt on only about half of the penalties that could be called against him and still draw penalties at a dizzying rate, that’s just how often he’s historically been a step ahead or inside of opposition defenders.

This season, Pettersson has yet to draw a single penalty in five-on-five situations. Even worse, I can’t remember watching Pettersson get hauled down and thinking “they have to call that” at any point in Vancouver’s first six games. And in the past, that’s been an every period occurrence watching NHL defenders try to contain Pettersson.

Pettersson will bounce back, I’m still confident of that. He’s going to get a greater proportion of bounces than he’s benefitted from so far, anyway.

Just copied this over to paste, but you beat me to it. He's off on all aspects of his game right now. Just wonder how much longer it will take for him to catch up. Hopefully being at home and having some more rest will help

What's the deal with Volkov? 24 years old , in 37 games last year had 7 G 13 pts . Not bad not great but put on waivers for purpose of buyout. Is he going back to play in the KHL?

The discussion today is 'What is wrong with a player whose nickname is Poutey?".

Where is Norm McDonald when you really need him .

Nonsense. He has got exactly the luck he has deserved. He isn’t generating quality scoring chances

Yeah I think the extended homestand will be good for several guys. Hopefully Pod gets into more games right away

Sure as poop hope so. TG with the last change should help. Chiasson should come out. Like Drance mentioned in the article though, things are going to get a big tough with Motte coming back soon too. Who comes out, Highmore? Dowling?

Pod / Dikcinson / Hoglander
Downling / Lammy / Motte

Though I assume TG will flip Motte and Pod there.

A lot has been made of how Hog has a positive effect on whoever he plays with, I would staple Pod to him.

I think Pod / Dik / Hog would be a tough line to play against. Hopefully get some chemistry between Pod and Hog and that could be a good staple for years.

Thanks for posting that stuff. I can't see Podkolzin sitting any longer. It's easier to shelter him at home with last change.

Nice seeing Myers 1st pairing though. I like those 2 together. Given the time they should develop some nice chemistry.

And I think Poolman should be able to handle the stay at home role with Hughes

I'm very glad Garland's contract was up this past summer and not next year, imagine the point he'd put up if he was on the top powerplay unit as well

Funny how the D seems to be coming together quicker than the scoring. Most in the summer thought it would be the opposite. Still very early but I say fvck Hamonic keep Burroughs and extend him while he is very cheap.

Lot of forwards are pouters. They take longer to get going as hockey isn’t fair sometimes and they require positive regression before they can focus

I am extremely happy we didn't go 8 years on our two RFAs this year
