Motte should be back soon. Does Benning risk losing another player on waivers or send Podz to Abby.

Hopefully they cut Chiasson – he isn't impacting much and there are better options on the powerplay.

I can understand where TG is coming from with Pod. He isn't acclimatized yet, and it shows, so going in and out a bit while learning and practicing isn't the worst for his long-term development. Sitting him out 3, 4, 5 games in a row would be, though... Dayal just wrote about it:

In this case, the person trying to learn something is Podkolzin, who’s been a healthy scratch for consecutive games. And the skill in question is becoming a top level professional hockey player in North America.

Podkolzin can learn a ton about becoming a high-end pro hockey player in North America from watching video and working with Vancouver’s coaching staff. What’s equally important, however, is that he gets consistent reps to actually apply the skills he’s learning in a game setting.

That doesn’t necessarily mean he needs to play top-nine minutes. Podkolzin isn’t fully comfortable on the smaller North American rink size yet and it shows, for example, with his inconsistent passing from the defensive half wall on breakouts. It’s totally fine if the coaching staff wants to gradually bring him along with a prescribed fourth line workload or, say, sit him in the last 10 minutes of a third period where the team’s trying to hold a one-goal lead.

But he needs to be playing games consistently (either in the NHL and if not there then in the AHL), especially considering he’s had very little KHL playing time over the last two seasons.

“It’s a fine line between what’s best for the player and what’s best for the team,” Green said about developing Podkolzin after Tuesday’s practice. “I think he’s done a lot of good things in our games and there’s some things that he still needs to work on which I’m not worried about at all.

“I think Podz is going to be a really good player in the league and we’re excited about him and our fans, everyone should be excited about him. But just because a player doesn’t play now and then or every night, that’s fine too.”

I can understand where Green’s coming from in saying that development can’t always come before the team. He’s totally right about that. The problem is that I think the player who’s taken his lineup spot, Alex Chiasson, is only a marginal upgrade — if that — on Podkolzin.

It’s a shame Green will force him to collapse in front of the net and ensure he stops hitting

He is over here to play hockey. Play in the NHL. His long term development is playing, not practicing for a week, getting one game and then sitting for another week.

He's a young player, you have to take the good with the bad. If you aren't seeing actual improvement after a good amount of games, make a change but playing 7 minutes a night for a few games then sitting him.

There is a reason why teams at the TDL go for vets because at the TDL they have learned that a prospect hasn't proven he can be an upgrade. Not 4 games into the season.

@RUSProspects
has advised me that he has heard a rumour that Dmitry Zlodeyev may soon be traded to Spartak Moscow of the KHL.

If the rumour comes true then Z's ascension to the top Flag of Russia league may come sooner than expected.

Hopefully he can get steady minutes on one team. Has been up and down between VHL and MHL clubs this season.

Is it too early to add him to the JV and OJ pile?

JB; "Pod did everything we asked him to, but we felt a change was best for both parties"

Lol perhaps a bit early. Although, already sick about the poor Podz, Green is a meany! I’d prefer if he is sent to Abby so I don’t have to hear about the kid

Agreed, he needs to play. Funny he was treated the same in the KHL?

Maybe he's too tall? Green & JB like to play the halflings

Jake has 4 goals in 11 games this year. Amazing what coaching can do . He is over .5 PPG

Philip Larsen also had the most points by a defenseman in the whole KHL before signing with the Canucks.

KHL is definitely a 2nd or 3rd tier league as far as quality of competition.

Collecting three points (1-2-3) on Oct. 15 at PHI, J.T. Miller recorded his ninth game with three or more points since joining the Canucks in 2019. Miller now has 126 points (43-83-126) in 128 games with Vancouver, ranking third overall in Canucks history in points per game (0.98) among skaters with a minimum 120 games played.

Lines for the Canucks at morning skate.

Pearson-Horvat-Garland
Podkolzin-Miller-Boeser
Highmore-Pettersson-Höglander
Bailey-Richardinson/Lammikko-Chiasson

OEL-Myers
Hughes-Poolman
Rathbone-Burroughs
Hunt-Schenn

I remember a couple posters in here making fun of me for wanting 3 scoring lines and a low minute 4th line. Depth throughout the line up always trumps stacking 2 lines IMO. Will be interesting to see how long Green keeps these together.

Personally I just don't think Highmore cuts it as a 3rd liner, especially to play with Petey. I would prefer Bailey in that spot.

Too bad for Dowling. But nice to see Bailey get the call. He's playing well. Now it would be cool to see him get in the lineup. Even better if he went on a scoring rip like he was on in Utica before Covid.

give that 4th line 5 minutes at 5v5, stagger the first 3 lines appropriately and see what they can do.

All the best teams in the league seem to do this, im not sure why Green is so different. Even the 2011 Canucks team, who had depth throughout, played their top 3 lines for 18-22 minutes a night and that 4th line got less than 5 or 6.

looks like the Blues and the Blackhawks are dealing with a bit of outbreak within their organizations.

Saad and Oreilly out tonight. Toews (again) and Borgstrom also out

Also looks like the Blackhawks are going to release the findings of that investigation, with immediate dismissals(firings) and resignations upcoming from parts of management
