They probably are a bubble team if they get solid goaltending. Bowman making the moves he did as a bubble team is the problem.

Well they moved Pulford to an office away from the UC which I believe was one of their first moves.

They extended the olive branch to past team greats who'd been run off by Pully.

The purse strings were loosened to sign FA's.

Winning cures a lot but the team was identified as one of if not the worst run organizations in all of sports prior to $Bill passing on.

I would rather wear a Nashville Austin Watson tshirt than wear a Murphy jersey. Murphy makes terrible play after terrible play, and still isn’t called out on it. Heck he got an A, to show you how little leadership is on this roster. Any good team would maybe have him on the third pair, Hawks think he’s a top matchup minute muncher… well look how his minutes have turned out. Him, de Haan, and McCabe are Russian Nesting Dolls of the same slow player. Taking penalties, coughing up pucks at the blue line, and flailing around like Seabrook in his last year. Is Murphy the outlet for all of my Blackhawks frustration? yes.
Is Murphy a bad hockey player? Also yes.

Also, why is Gustafsson playing when he’s not even used to kill penalties? We don’t need some offense only defenseman who isn’t scoring. I’d rather throw any kid out there who will actually try instead of this retread who couldn’t stop anything his first time around. Give Beaudin or another kid a chance. Gus is like Strome, an absolute luxury item who looks ok on a scoresheet and is very easy to play against.

Dad never was able to work under the luxury of a hard cap or limited FA salaries. What would Rocky have done under $Bill’s market? What would $Bill have done under Rocky’s?

Rocky (with McD’s great assistance) knew something his father didn’t - how to maximize revenues. Otherwise, in a business sense, I’m not sure he would have been much different.

I think it was technically his brother but yes. Wirtz was a minority partner of the Red Wings until he bought into the Hawks with Norris.

Yes - but still the cap created a cost-certainty over time - and kept the excess over the cap down by controlling overall salaries. And the escrow reduced the actual amount that the Wirtz’ paid.

Player pay was about 2/3 of revenues before the cap (I’d have to look up the exact numbers) - now they’re pegged at 50%.

Rocky is operating in a dramatically different world that his old man did.

I remember when that all happened. Bob Verdi, Steve Rosenbloom or someone did a blurb in the Trib.

They could have signed both Hull and Gilmour but went for only one and I believe at the time said they were signing one or the other. Could be wrong about that.

On the day they signed Dougie, Wirtz's stock in First Chicago had a paper gain of $39mil which could have covered both their salary and term.

I've read before that Pully didn't want Brett in a Hawk uni with the idea that it would bring Bobby around the UC more.
