Seems like a pretty fair approach to me.

I'm okay if they keep him, and okay if they let him go. If they keep him, management has to tell the players and the public that he's staying. Otherwise the circus will get even more out of hand.

For me there are two big areas of concern with the team. Few forwards play defense, and JC either doesn't care or can't get them to do so. And it may be that he has lost the team. I can't tell from the outside if that is the case, but JC must go if that's the case (even if it not his fault).

if coliton stays then he needs to start holding players accountable no more lazy plays on t he defensive and offensive side no matter who you are. Even if it is shift or more. Just way too many plays like that through out this 6 games.

Not sure what there is to raise. I still lean towards this being about 70-30 on the coaching staff and system. Sure, there are mistakes made, but you are never going to completely eliminate them, even with the best players. A lot has to do with what kind of mistakes, where they are being made and how do they respond. Honestly speaking, I think that the effort is there from most of the players, give or take a couple. This is less a product of skill and effort than something else.

What stands out to me is that on both ends of the ice the Hawks seem to be playing down a man. In the D zone there is so much chasing it is ridiculous. If they are truly playing a man-on-man with the D following guys way too high in the zone, why does it always seem like any pass to the weak side has no Hawk player close? Where is the high forward? Why are they constantly trying to close the gap from so far away. Same in the offensive zone, why when they are doubled down low or on the boards does there never seem to be an open man, when clearly there should be.

Could be coaching, but the reality is this is not a very good hockey team, with two at the most top 4 d mean, and 3 top 6 forwards, and I do not consider this years version of Toews a top 6 forward. ADB, Kane, Dach are top 6, the rest are third liners at best on a playoff caliber team.

I don't know what Dach is still....I don't think he's a bust, and I don't think it's fair to say he's a top 6 player either at this point. I think like Justin Fields, we see flashes, but we need to see more before hitching our wagon to him.

I was being generous, so 2 top 6 forwards.

biggest loss on the team, they could of let anyone else go, and it wouldn't have hurt as much.

Absolute beast that doesn't get the credit he deserved.

- vabeachbear

Amen, he was their best LB, and that includes #50 and #55, he was a beast with Washington as well.

After taking a year off, I’m willing to give Toews more than six games to determine if he’s a top six or not.

That is why I said this years version, would you agree the first 6 games he was not the Toews we are accustomed too? I had no expectation that he would, but I think a lot of the board did.

Also the goaltending has been at the bottom of the league, worst save percentage 5 on 5.

Yeah if Fleury makes 1-2 more saves, the Detroit game would have been a bit different.

As to special teams, who'd of thunk a team with the 2nd best PK unit and a top 10 PP unit would be one of the worst teams in the league.

Weird days... They can execute on special teams but not 5x5.

The only things to watch are the Home Attendance and the TV ratings. When those two tank and stay tanked and the revenue they provide dries up things will change.

That’s true of either goalie in any of the first 6 games.

Goalies playing well - even it’s the questionable Chicago defense in front of them - make 1 or 2 more saves at critical times - such as when the team just gave up a goal, or just scored, or just killed a PP and has some momentum that is killed by giving up a goal.

Blackhawks have shown a tendency to give up goals in bunches - things start going bad, and they have no idea how to turn it around. Neither Fleury nor Lankinen have helped them in that very much.

Lazarus, in today’s The Athletic, writes that rumors out there say that the lack of revenues due to Covid last season, and declining ticket sales this season, could stop Rocky / Danny from making a move on Bowman and Colliton, both with new extended contracts - declining revenues causing them to lock down on costs. Paying them off and hiring quality replacements might be too much money going out for the family to bear.

This has been going on for years. To use COVID as an excuse doesn’t wash. Declining Season Ticket Sales is their own fault for not addressing the problems earlier including reupping Stan and JC.
