I don't understand. Even if the no trade clause kicks in, If Eichel vetoes the trade, go back and have a seat.
If he truly wants to leave here, And he doesn't care where (him or his representatives words) Then i don't see all the fretting over the NTC.
Better if he comes to grips with the Sabres holding the power.
One more thought if he goes the legal route. Takes a long time to wind it's way through the union and the courts. Time is ticking Crybaby ! |

That's where the front office needs to be competent. The next best thing to acquiring a #1 OA is to draft well in all rounds, and keep picking up top 3 RD picks. Collect the assets, wait until there's log jams and use some players to pick up high end talents when the team has shown they're ready to advance in the hierarchy of the NHL. it wouldn't hurt to add Shane Wright but you don't need to do it to win. Sup Toronto. - TheSabresTaco
1Cs generally don't become available unless you're the Buffalo Sabres and Jack Eichel.
Sure, you can pick up a RyJo or Duchene (or even a ROR) but good luck acquiring an elite 1C. |

Or you can draft the likes of Kopitar (11th OA), Point (79th OA), Schiefele (7th OA), Barzal (15th OA), Bergeron (45th OA), Pettersson (5th OA), Aho (35th OA), or Getzlaf (19th OA)
You can win without an elite 1C but you need a team game.
Exhibit 1: The Islanders. |

It is about time for a Chris Gratton for Daniel Briere trade
and how about a Stephane Beauregard for Dominik Hasek type deal? |

For every 7OA Scheifele there's 4 Nylanders, Monahans, Mittelstadts and Hayden Fleurys.
It's very optimistic to think that Barzal or Point will just fall into your lap |

I'm not saying it's easy, but having a competent scouting department will allow you to find one of these players. Especially in the top 10.

There is more than a little luck involved in drafting well.
Relying on luck as a plan is a bad idea.
It's why Lunaion was big on drafting Beniers and getting a quality Center in return for Eichel. |

I'm not too worried yet about the Sabres being too good this year or Don being too good. I'll wait and see as the season unfolds, injuries take place, losses pile up, the mental tole starts to wear on the players and the goaltending isn't so stellar. |

this is true...however, if you have a competent organization who's goal is to win games through a system that is in place and who choses player that fits within that system, the odds of a 7oa turning into an impact player increases substantially |

scouting and player development.
I don't necessarily think the Sabres just drafted poorly for years and years.
They sucked at developing their talent.
Hell look at Dahlin, Mitts, Joker, etc - its still an issue today.

I'm just going to present the 2010 and 2011 draft classes without comment.
The scouting was awful and the development wasn't far behind. But Christ Almighty this team couldn't (frank)ing draft, for the most part, for like 10 god damn years.

I can imagine 10 different scenarios, yes. Making the right trade for this franchise is part of the battle. And grabbing a very expensive winger to add to this collection of misfits and young draft picks aint it.
