They were men in positions of considerable power, there are different rules for them and they damn near pulled off the cover-up until that kid in Michigan was assaulted which is the impetus for Beach coming forward.
The leadership of the Hawks actually were naive, naive in thinking that if they didn't corral this monster they had in their employ that he would not do it again. Him repeating his predation lead to each of their demise.
They all made a bad choice. - kwolf68
And how many before Kyle, and how many between Kyle and the MI HS student? It's never just a couple with this kind.

Also, I want to squash the argument that Bowman and others "thought" McFool had taken care of it thus they have no (or just a little) culpability.
So I will give Stan and MacIsaac or whoever a pass that on the day of the meeting they left thinking "aight, McCub has it, all good".
Then a few weeks later there is the sex predator holding your Stanley Cup, there he is at the parade, there he is at the freaking flag raising. At no point did any of these pass-the-buck asshats look over at the sex predator and go, "Holy poop, John didn't take care of this...
MAYBE I SHOULD LOOK INTO THIS."
None did, they honestly did not care. No wonder Kyle Beach broke down when he said that was the moment he felt like nothing, seeing the Sex Predator prancing around with the Cup.
THEN to add insult to injury the Hawks give this guy the CUP to take to the town where he would eventually get hired so he could assault a minor child.
There is zero spin to any of this. The men in that meeting should never ever hold positions of power again. They need a Come to Jesus, find some courage in personal responsibility and start doing Ted Talks in how not to be a complete jackass. - kwolf68
And when it became clear that the FO had done nothing, I really wish Sopel and Boynton had grabbed some of the most intimidating guys on the team and told Aldrich he was not welcome at the party and that he needed to never show his face around the team again. If he wouldn't leave, they could have easily forcibly removed him. |

Idk, to me the bigger fail would be that after all this happened he was in the organization for several more years and just continued to spiral down the drain when help could have been given. - HawkintheD
I totally agree.
I hope everyone across the board is taking notes and learning lessons (the league, the us olympics, nhlpa, every team, every player, etc).
I hope the schmuck at the root of this sees more jail time! Time will tell if more victims come forward. That would make this an even bigger travesty.
Q is out. I would bet a million bucks Chevy is out tomorrow. Considering the “needing league permission” before taking another NHL job, I don’t know how the hall inducts them at this point
Fehr may have apologized, but it’s 11 years too late. The players need to make a stand and kick his arse out as well.
Hopefully these actions help the healing to begin for all (including you Hawk fans), and nothing like this ever happens again in the sport we all love |

It is sickening to think about. He was at Miami University and there were accusations there. He worked with Notre Dame and the USA Women's team.

Thank you for your comments and for being rational and kind.
Never want to see anything like this again, but I suspect we'll see a wave of additional reports start to come in, though with it being male-on-male in a traditionally "manly man" sport, many may just continue to suffer in silence.

Happy surprise in the pantry - some Oregon berry vodka that I made this summer.
Think I'll need that this weekend.
Just opened my photos looking for something and it was on my Blackhawks parade photos. Gut punch. |

Good point. I don't understand why the NHLPA wouldn't have pushed this. I mean, the Hawks were playing for/just won a cup, while inexcusable, I can see why they would sweep this under the rug. Why would the union. They are supposed to be 100% for the players. |

It will be interesting to see if the style of play changes in the next 5 games due to the shake-up at the top. JC can't be too comfortable ATM. - tvetter
JC is dead man walking. Just a matter of timing now. It's obvious the Wirtz's expected more out of this team this year. |

The ironic part of this is the guy who caused this mess has skated free. McD’s head better be on a swivel. - rtang415

This season is a write off, the only good that can come of it would be a top 2 draft pick. JC and KD will ride out the season and the team will replace them both in the summer. |

Isn't that pick property of the Columbus Blue Jackets?

Nope, it’s lottery protected. If they fall out of the lottery spots then yes it’s the CBJ. |

Bowman and Quenneville out. Cheveldayoff and Fehr still to go. Toews and Kane are liars and even worse still praising Blackhawk management from those cup years. Disgusting. |

You fail to mention Keith. And also fail to mention the Oilers hired Craig MacTavish numerous times after he was charged and served time for murdering someone.

Toews and Kane praising Bowman and company?
These guys are tainted for their lack of compassion and for not stepping up for a fellow teammate. They need to go and should not be praised or honored in any way by the Blackhawks. Lost all respect for those guys. In the end they only care about themselves and are just like all those other dirtbags. Doesn't say much for human compassion or doing the right thing. Very disappointing. |

Carolina tonight. Tough place to go looking for the first win, basically 1/10 of the season into the schedule. |

To each their own. I lost no respect for Toews and Kane.
My respect for the FBI, however, is at 0.0% for the felonies they committed around the doctor who raped very many Olympic gymnasts. |

You know the MacTavish thing is so much different on so many levels, regardless how you frame it.
You can dispute the punishment he received , and that would be fair, but I’m a firm believer in second chances after you have done your time. |

I second this, now that Q is gone Toews and Kane need to go either trade them or pushed out of the league. That locker room needs a complete makeover to have a chance of healing. A new Captain needs to be chosen. |

This certainly has been a terrible couple of days for everyone involved. The punishments are well-earned and well-deserved.
Starting with Rocky Wirtz, who let McDonough create a corporate culture that would allow and encourage situations like this. Wirtz game him the keys to the kingdom, liked the financial rewards, and ignored the rest. Ownership is very much responsible for what happened, and should be punished with much more than a fine representing one day’s ticket sales.
Of the front office people involved in the meeting, two (McDonough and the mental skills coach) are bad people who unfortunately seem to have escaped punishment.
I don’t think the Bowman, Quenneville, Chevaldayev, or MacIsaac are bad people - they failed to do what should have been required by their positions, and certainly was required as people in positions of responsibility. I can say I’m very glad that they have all will be released from their positions while also feeling sad about it. Again, I don’t think they’re bad people - but they didn’t do what they could have and should have done to take care of a young man who trusted them to rake his accusations seriously.
I will not gloat or express vitriole about their fate, just saying that it was deserved.
This has probably been a mixed couple of days for Kyle Beach - having to relive the events of 11 years ago, but also getting some vindication. He was certainty the person who has been punished the most through this, having to live with the memory of what happened, knowing that he ultimately wasn’t taken seriously enough by people he trusted, knowing that Aldrich had a summer of celebration unpunished, living with that for the last 11 years. But now it’s all out there, he is justly being praised for his courage….Hopefully he can now move on. |

I wish life was that black and white. They grew up with Bowman and to me if i were a player on this team i think at that age i wouldn't believe it happened. Rumors happen all the time wasnt there a rumour about a certain Blackhawk player and television media person? I still think they are struggling with it. Who teaches you how to deal with something like this emotionally.
I'm just glad they came out with the report, many of the defenders can be outraged now, change typically happens after a reveal, and it's always a reminder of how the goal of one thing, be it money, championships, family honor, can hold power over humans to do the right thing. |

Yup - they should have been parked outside of his house after the report was released - pdx2ord
Tried to stay away from this subject, but this point I'm going to comment on.
You stop and think about this, and you have to ask yourself why the Media isn't there parked out in front of his house.
Does it not seem odd that the one person who is most responsible, the one person who really should be facing the brunt of this, is the one person the media is kind of laying off?
Blame Stan, blame Q, blame the 19 and 20 yr old Kane and Toews (the last two are ridiculous to blame, btw)
There's a reason they are not out in front of his house, or chasing him in and out of the grocery store, like they would anyone else, ask yourself why would that be?

Interesting question.
I'd also wonder what any "embedded" Hawk beat reporters knew or heard at the time. Or in training camp the next year.
