Nice contract for Rielly btw... he probably could have held firm for $9M+ but took a discount.

I think the leafs should have given him 11 mil so he could join the core group. What’s that now? 5 players accounting for 47 mil of the cap? With their track record of success, and performance this year it’s a wise investment. Who needs more d or goaltending? Haha

Hot take.

You can take Farabee from Atkinson and Brassard right now but you can’t take Brassard and Atkinson from each other. Brassard and Atkinson are a pair right now and they’re really good.

Brassard is playing okay but he is a passenger on that line. He's being carried by Atkinson and Farabee. Right now, 2C is one of the problems in the lineup.

as a 1M player should be. Passenger because he doesnt drive play, kind of like Couts is so far this year. His fancy stats arent stellar. But the most important stat is looking good.....4-1-1.

Its completely laughable, I would not want Rielly playing 8 minutes for my team, never mind 8 years. Franchise is going nowhere fast handing out contracts like this.

Very small sample size to suggest that they will need to worry about resigning RR and Jones. Jones has pleasantly surprised me so far, but again, just 2 games played so far.
- Phillywhiteout

I agree, small sample size, but the only way RR does not get resigned is if 1. he doesn't want to sign here or 2. his play completely goes off the rails similar to what we saw from a lot of Flyer players last season. So far RR has been a beast; I'm really happy with what I have seen from him.

I really don't know what you are watching. The chemistry I see is between Cam and Bee, not Cam and Brassard. Brassard has played well defensively and no doubt has got pucks up ice to his wingers, but as I posted earlier, he is trailing the play most of the time. When Hayes comes back, I can see the Flyers moving Laughts to wing and starting Hayes at 3C to allow him to get his game back, but eventually Hayes has got to be your 2C, otherwise we are screwed to the max! I would like to see Brassard play with JVR and Lindblom, I think that might be a very good line for us.

Finally in agreement that it's laughable but not the Reilly signing. You constantly heap praise on a mediocre player like Ristolainen. Even using the adjective great to describe his play. It is laughable. Rielly is twice the player that Ristolainen is and yet you claim you don't want him playing 8 minutes for your team. Beyond laughable.

Been a beast? Are you seriously kidding me? I hope they trade him right now. Get back whatever you can for him. This is a classic case of seeing what you want to see and not what is reality. Watch the top defenseman in the league play. Hell, watch Ryan Ellis play. Ristolainen is light years behind. He is mediocre at best.

RR makes the team better. look at the heat map from the edmonton game, flyers shots were all right in front of the crease. Oilers were farther out, any idea why that is? What does your fancy stats say about that?

Coming back from a nagging injury and taking time to adjust I don’t see how you can complain this much about a player. But then again we have two different sets of eyes.
Personally I see a player who instinctually 20% of the time wants to make the wrong choice and is already benefiting from better coaching.
Defense is a hard position to play and we could nitpick any player that’s ever played and find mistakes. A little overpriced but I’m impressed with what I’m seeing compared to what I was expecting

He's not a rookie. He's a NHL veteran of 500+ NHL games. Why is the coaching better? Has he not had competent coaching in his career and that's why he's been a mediocre player?
For the life of me what is impressive? For a physical player, he is not dominant physically in the defensive zone. He is not strong in coverage. He does not display an ability to read and anticipate plays. He can make a decent pass but he does not move the puck quickly nor skate the puck to create transition play the other way. Does not show an ability to anticipate and break up plays in the neutral zone to create transition offense. Doesn't show an ability to jump into the play to create an offensive advantage. So what is so impressive? We're getting the same level of play if not better from Justin Braun.

Your eyes and my eyes are seeing two different games friend. I don’t see that many mistakes. I see a big body intimidating to play against and decent hands and feet. He’s for sure better then braun and honestly right now you might be right they’re on par, but that’s because brauns having a decent start since he’s not asked to play against top lines.

Ristolainen has always had raw skills. Players are not intimidated by him. That's a myth. He's not showing he's better than Braun. He makes mistakes all over the ice. Our eyes are different because I see that Braun, while paired with Provorov is playing against top lines while Ellis is out. That comment doesn't give me much faith in your eyes and there really is no reason for me to continue.
