No, its senseless that he is not playing every night for the Phantoms! I would rather lose games giving my top prospects multiple reps than lose games with them sitting!
- jd250

He does not belong n the AHL. He is not ready at all. He will not develop being there this year at all imo.

So let me ask you this since you say play him no matter what. If he is not ready mentally physically or any way you still play him? He will very likely not get top 6 minutes. So you want to play him on the bottom line with limited minutes? When he can be in junior playing top line and all situations 20+ minutes a night. Samu is is a case on how to ruin and waste talent so far; they have botched his development.

Your continued insinuation that they gave Lappariere a coaching job because he was hit in the mouth with a puck is absurd.

Stop giving guys jobs based on merit?

How soon can we send brown down to assist the phantoms barring being claimed? It’s what 10 games or 24 days?

Hayes cannot come back until the Flyers 11th games of the season.

Nov 10th. But wasn’t the timeframe 6-8 weeks for recovery?

When he is eligible to return has nothing to do with the time frame for recovery. He is on LTIR.

Actually in looking at it, he may be eligible to return on 11/6 against Washington. It's right on the edge.

It's a real mess right now. Very fragile team. I really thought they were positioning themselves to finally win last night -- the process was much better for most of the first two periods, minus the power play -- but then it all fell apart again until a futile late push with the outcome sealed.
- bmeltzer

Interesting ... would you call the Flyers a very fragile team last year? Is there a common denominator here?

Are you seriously trying to insinuate that last year with Vigneault, Yeo and Therrien all ahead of Lappy in the coaching hierarchy, that Lappy was the reason why the Flyers were a very fragile team last year? All due to the 4th assistant coach?

Your post is an example of what happens when you post with feelings instead of facts.

I think there is some loyalty to Lappy based on his efforts as a player, but if that was a reason for getting a job within the organization how in the hell is Thoreson not employed?

Nice write up on Athletic about road trip. Topic of playing like beginning of last year discussed..

https://theathletic.com/2...ource=user-shared-article

That said, good goaltending only can take a team so far if they’re not also controlling play. While Philadelphia has done so for stretches, overarching results have yet to manifest into a true play-driving club.

But the Flyers are still far ahead of where they were this time last season.

After all, it’s not like the Flyers have been getting crushed. A 47.79 percent shot share (Corsi For) and 47.92 percent expected goals share (xG For) aren’t terrible. But you know what was terrible? Where they were six games into 2020-21. Philadelphia was sitting at 42.37 percent and 42.99 percent at this point last season — truly awful territory. This club is clearly not replicating last year’s smoke-and-mirrors start, at least not to that extent.

What’s up with Monohan on the fourth line? Secrecy about Ellis is also annoying, give us an update
- ClaudeFather

Monohan is coming off a couple surgeries and quite frankly he is playing where he should be. The success he had in prior years was because of Gaudreau. Monohan is slow and not a playmaker. I've watched a bit of the Flyers games this year and they are looking pretty good. I wish the Flames had Sean

I think having familiarity with the organization helps you get a look but Lappy wasn't hired because he took a puck to the face.

The Flyers are 30th in the league in CF% and 24th in XG for%. 30th in the league in Scoring chances for %. 23rd in high danger chances for. 2nd in the league in shot percentage. Paints a picture.

I guess everyone enjoys the game in their own way. This stuff is about as interesting as a tax form, and just as incomprehensible, to me. Ha ha

It simply says that the Flyers are not outplaying teams and are actually getting out played but are just riding hot shooting. Not a sustainable way to play.

They’ve also led in almost every game, sometimes big leads, you’re not going to constantly continue to drive play with the lead in games. They’ve without a doubt made the most of their opportunities. Very short sample Size

Score effects can be a part of it but the Flyers have been behind in games late as much as they've had leads. It is a small sample size but it shows where they have to get better. There are many positives also.

Mangiapane translates from Italian as “bread eater.”

Wouldn’t mind trading for that guy just to play the Rangers a handful of times per year.

Yup, hot shooting and clutch goaltending can get you some wins but eventually the shooters and goalies cool off a bit and it becomes unsustainable.

I thought going into the season that the Flyers were a team that could finish anywhere from 3rd to 6th in the division and I've seen nothing that has changed my mind.

The play on the ice though, doesn't bother me as much as the Risto deal. They gave up a ton for a guy who can barely hack it on the 2nd pairing and I'm praying they don't compound the problem by re-signing him to a horrid contract. Yes he's tough, and he throws some big hits, but his positional play is awful and he's going to cost you more goals than his hits will ever prevent.

I agree but there are posters here who think he has played great and has been a beast. Not sure what they're looking at. He is extremely mediocre.

They get mesmerized by the physical play and ignore the actual hockey. Hey, if they had gotten the guy for Hagg and a 2nd, his cap hit was under 3 for another couple seasons and he was playing 15 mins or so on the 3rd pair, it would be fine.

But the price they actually paid for this mediocre rental(hopefully) is simply inexcusable
