Even when zib and bread both score in the same game those end up being our only 2 goals a la last night's game. It's a systemic issue, from top to bottom, coaching and players. Nothing clicks at the same time. Effort issues, defensive lapses, invisible offense, bench minors, penalties overall, Tinordi. The only constants are Shesty and Fox and they can only do so much. - picklerick
We were having very similar conversations last year where we came to an agreement that it looked like DQ's system was relying on telepathy. It'll come. The big difference is that last year they were in the process of digging out of a 4 game losing streak to start the year. They were at .500 following game 10 last year which they followed up with an additional 4 game losing streak.
If they can snag a win or two out of the next few games I am hopeful that the system will come together and they will really start to look like whatever Gallant's vision ultimately will be.
If they opt to go on a significant losing streak I could definitely see Dolan getting impatient and blowing poop up. Unless Gallant has been groomed to always be positive by management, I can't imagine them being content with him saying they're playing "great" when they look like dog poop. |

That's a pretty interesting development. Or they just want other teams to scout him actually playing games instead of cultivating mass on the sidelines. |

Maybe Shesterkin's pronoun is 'they' and he's just been referring to him.

That's a damned slim margin.
Need to score more if we hope to win those upcoming games. C'mon Zib, Bread, etc. - Fenrir
They will score more provided they instead do the things offensively I mentioned after their OT loss in my 1:31am post.
That starts with Panarin for one as for what he did for once this season to score their 2nd powerplay goal just 3 seconds after the puck was dropped in deep, resulting in a clean faceoff win by Strome directly back to Fox, who instantly passed the puck across to Panarin to release his shot likewise also instantly without a second of delay.

The good news is the Rangers have points in 8 of their 10 games at 6-2-2 thus far without the benefit yet of both first their top offensive players, and secondly, those others expected to have already contributed offensively as well, all getting off to slow starts. Their best October record in recent years is solely due to the play of both Shesty in goal, and Fox's play both ways in playing like he wants to win again a Norris Trophy in back to back seasons.
It takes some time for a team coming off some roster turnover, along with a new complete bench coaching staff, to perform up to their expectancies. What is upsetting currently is first the lack of a complete 60 minutes effort by many players. Then secondly offensive wise in not getting off enough shot attempts, due to either overpassing, wanting to advance the puck closer to the net in refusing to shoot, trying to make picture perfect plays, or simply just holding onto the puck too long when past the opposition's blueline including when on the powerplay. |

we are scoring less than 2.5 gpg. something has to give. either it catches up with us and we start losing, a lot, or we figure out a way to put up more goals |

Right the other side of the coin is that we are 6-2-2 with only scoring 2.5 GPG.
They will score more- ebs and flows. Bank this: - by the end of the year they will have at least 5 guys with more than 20 goals each. |

"I want to thank the Rangers for working with me and appreciate the open and honest conversations we have had during this process," Kravtsov said. "While this has been a challenging time for me personally, I believe having the opportunity to return to Traktor and work on my game is the best thing for me right now. My main focus is getting better every day to continue toward my goal of playing hockey for the New York Rangers." |

Exactly. 2.5 gpg and we all know they don't look anywhere near as good as they should. Meanwhile, not only do we have a goalie we can depend on again, but the team defense is already better, despite also having room for improvement. This inflated record should be giving us hope that we will be firmly in the playoff picture once the ship is sailing smoothly.
But, around here optimism is a four letter word. |

Shut up. He didn't say that, did he???
Jesus. If that's anywhere near how you feel, take your lumps, go to Hartford, play your ass off and you would've been in the NY line up in 6 (frank)ing days!!! |

Pretty telling from Brooks:
2. Rhetorical question time: Would anyone watching a Rangers game — be it a casual fan, student of the game or talent evaluator — be able to identify Alexis Lafreniere as a first-overall selection?
Lafreniere seems to be having less impact on the ice then he did during last year’s challenging rookie go-round. He is not driving play, he is not generating offense, he is not creating chances — though, yes, he does lead the team with three goals at five-on-five.

Alexis Lafreniere not shying away from Rangers coach’s criticism
On the other side of the puck, Lafreniere’s failure to clear the zone on what appeared a rather weak effort to begin with, directly led to the sequence on which the Canucks tied Tuesday’s game in the third period. This less than a week after he was chastised for turnovers.
I wonder, with Lafreniere’s ongoing issues and Filip Chytil’s generally blah work, would it make sense to move No. 13 into the middle, which is where many personnel people believe he’s belonged from the start?
Because if Lafreniere can capably make the shift to center, that would sure solve a whole lot of issues going forward for the Rangers. |

Think he’s trying to save face. Rangers likely told him no one wants him because he’s coming off like a diva. |

Let's see if I follow this correctly. He's not playing well enough for anyone with a voice or a keyboard. So, the solution is to move him to a more difficult position?? |

Just to throw some numbers out there for our first 10 games:
Record: 6-2-2
GF/GA per game: GF 2.4 GA 2.2
Wins against teams currently above hockey .500: 3
50% of our wins came against teams currently above .500 but that includes winning games we shouldnt have against teams that were struggling at the time (i.e. the toronto game)
Average GF/GA in wins: 3 GF to 1 GA
Neither are sustainable numbers to rely on to get wins
Losses to teams currently above hockey .500: 2
50% of our losses come against teams currently above .500. Those 2 teams above .500 are CAL and WSH, and we lost 5-1 against both
This is all a recipe for disaster for the upcoming 3 games against very good teams - picklerick
It could be much worse right now if not for Shesty's and Fox's play of key, for the top two who have saved them from having a poor start instead. We need our others expected to get their games going to their norms still.
But as far as wins & losses vs. the above & below .500 teams with them playing thus far 7 of 10 games on the road, (and 9 of 12 in total by the end of this road trip), imagine if you were an Isles fan instead in expecting even more this season in a Cup win. That with the Isles at 3-2-2 in having played all 7 games on the road of their first 13 total road games to begin the season.
Of the Isles 8 points to date, 6 pts. came against 3 teams a combined current 5-21-3 (with a total -54 Goal Differential); the best in injury hit Vegas 4-5-0 (with a -9 Goal Diff.), while Chicago's & Arizona's combined record is 1-16-3 (with a total -45 Goal Diff.). Yet the Isles won those 3 games by only a combined 9-1 score in like the Rangers, scoring more than 3 goals just once this season in their 4-1 win over Chicago. The Rangers scored more than 3 goals in only their 4-0 win Friday over Columbus.
The Isles are 0-0-2 vs. Columbus & Nashville in losing both games 3-2 in OT & the S.O. respectively, while the Rangers defeated both in regulation by a combined 7-1 score.
Then against their best faced, the Isles lost their opening two games by a total 11-4 margin to Carolina & Florida, (combined 16-0-1 with a total +39 Goal Dif.) The Rangers courtesy of Shesty defeated Toronto 2-1 in OT, but lost to their other best faced in the Caps & Flames by a 10-2 total, (each 5-1 losses). |
