All of them have been ok, even Myers and even Hughes.

Nobody has been outstanding, but all of them being ok is a HUGE improvement over last year already.

PK is struggling and that needs to be addressed, but 5v5 defense has improved

I'd like to see the context behind those numbers. Is he playing against top lines? Does he see more ice time when defending leads and less when trailing? Are the shots coming from the perimeter and is Demko screened/unscreened?

Because visually he seems just fine to me as well. He's been playing banged up the last couple of games though and it has shown.

Just looking at corsi doesn't tell the whole story

Yep that whole scorpion save sequence was born out of him failing to clear with an abundance of time ... I really don't know how he hits those shinpads so remarkably often!
- Sayros

Actually it was born out of 2 crappy penalties that put us down 2 men. But that was probably Myers fault as well.

Beags deserved Ovie’s admiration. The Caps were nothing without his leadership

True Story. OV said without the Beags there would have been no cup.

Depth

Probably the deepest we’ve been on defense in a long time

Complain about Benning always trading away picks and young players but have no problem doing it themselves

A better one lately Could easily be on a winning streak right now if not for some hot opposing goalies stealing games

That 3v5 kill + Demko's heroics + Miller's epic OT goal is exactly the type of win that can get a team rolling

💯 d has been shockingly decent. It’s all on our forwards and our PP

It's great if they can keep it going. I'm still not completely convinced they can. Still way too many passengers and it's a team game.

It might be a result of being spoiled by watching Tanev for so many years, but to me Poolman hasn't filled the role of steady defenisive defenseman to the extent I would like for what he is paid. Feels like you could get the same production from a guy making 900k.

I think 5v5 play is improving, special teams needs to get sorted out quickly though. Especially on this homestand with more practice time

He's basically getting paid like a #5 dman in terms of cap hit, I'd say he's been fine at his cap hit

I think the decreased forecheck and greater defensive responsibility of the forwards is the reason for both the praise of the D corps as well as the complaining about the forwards not doing enough. I don't think Myers is suddenly magically a better player than he was last year or the year before.

Thoughts??

Sutter just putting up the smoke and mirror trick. They’ve been rumoured in the Eichel sweepstakes all summer. I don’t think anyone expected the Flames to come out the way they did. Hard to break that up for a injured player that requires surgery. Depending on the cost I’d say the Flames are in the talks for sure.

You got me curious, so I took a look on capfriendly. There are only 2 teams in the entire western conference with #5 Dmen paid as high as him. For most teams, his price point is a #4.

He is paid as a low-end middle pairing guy, which for me is just a bit too much considering how rough his numbers look.

Again, just looking at corsi alone is a very flawed way to evaluate a player. And if that number puts him as a lower end #4, or high end #5 then I think he's just fine.
