How has Pouty been playing?
- Reubenkincade

Skated better than he has all season, still not as good as his usual self but a step in the right direction. He did hit a crossbar and also made a nice defensive effort in OT that lead to the winning goal

I think the decreased forecheck and greater defensive responsibility of the forwards is the reason for both the praise of the D corps as well as the complaining about the forwards not doing enough. I don't think Myers is suddenly magically a better player than he was last year or the year before.
- NorthNuck

Why not? I think it's possible that he's responding to a different Coaching voice in Shaw and still evolving as a player.

I said it in the offseason when we hired Shaw. I thought he could make a difference with our D and especially with a guy like Myers. I think he has so far.

I liked how Hughes handled Kreider in OT as well, Shaw himself has said that he likes working with players on little subtle nuances that can make a big difference, like angles, leverage, etc.

He's been in the league for over 10 years. The play he exhibited since he got here has been largely what he showed in WPG and BUF. That's why I put more stock in the system change than him improving his game.

In any event, if he can keep it up, it doesn't matter.

In the 1 game I watched, his skating was ECHL level, so saying he is skating better doesn't really say much.
This guy is the top paid forward on the team, he needs to be much better.
No excuses, as this kid was not very good last season as well.

I just don't see why the 2 have to be mutually exclusive. Maybe the new system plays to his strengths which is allowing him improvement in his game.

Again, just looking at corsi alone is a very flawed way to evaluate a player. And if that number puts him as a lower end #4, or high end #5 then I think he's just fine.
- Nucker101

I'm not just talking about Corsi. There are several different stats that suggest that it will come crashing down on him sooner or later. I guess we'll just have to see

Does anyone suspect some NHL arenas might play crowd noise to amplify the smaller attendance right now?

Football got exposed for this over 15 years ago. No one really cared of course but I'm just curious if this will happen in NHL rinks after they were already doing it during the bubble.

that's fair. it's a moo point as long as he keeps it up.

...but i still look forward to everyone pointing out every single misplay by him like reuby on hughes steroids, just to needle you.

Don't know how people can claim that Demko stole that game for the Canucks.? He was spectacular when needed but he faced a low number of shots and the Canucks out chanced and carried the play 5 on 5. If anything, Shesterkin was threatening to steal the game for the Rangers.

The PP is still a joke though.

What a risk for a player who's long term health is a mystery at this point.

I’m betting that they don’t have confidence in Tkachuk wanting to play there long term. That or they really have full confidence in Eichel’s recovery/surgery.

Essentially all of his possesion metrics across the board look bad. The Canucks have the puck less, shoot less, and are therefore expected to score less when he is on the ice. Hell even his shots through % is terrible compared to his career average. Not to mention one of the stats I read that put me on this tangent, the goaltenders save % is astronomically high when he's on the ice, suggesting that there's a fair amount of luck involved with his current +/-.

100%, I'm thinking some making those claims either didn't watch or weren't watching closely.

So basically corsi, corsi, and corsi? As for the sv%, I could see that being sustained since he’s been decent at boxing out forwards and letting Demko see the puck, especially on 5v5
