Essentially all of his possesion metrics across the board look bad. The Canucks have the puck less, shoot less, and are therefore expected to score less when he is on the ice. Hell even his shots through % is terrible compared to his career average. Not to mention one of the stats I read that put me on this tangent, the goaltenders save % is astronomically high when he's on the ice, suggesting that there's a fair amount of luck involved with his current +/-.
- NorthNuck

Or it is suggesting that the shots are from low danger areas.
I could go on and on about Hughes and his defensive play, kinda like you and the rest of the Myers bashers, but I am trying to bite my tongue, as it appears to offend the guzzlers.

I’m betting that they don’t have confidence in Tkachuk wanting to play there long term. That or they really have full confidence in Eichel’s recovery/surgery.

Not like he is gonna stay in Buffalo longer then he has too lol

that's fair. it's a moo point as long as he keeps it up.

...but i still look forward to everyone pointing out every single misplay by him like reuby on hughes steroids, just to needle you.

I'm good with that. It's about time someone dethroned Reuby anyhow. The guy is getting way too smug hiding in his foam brick castle.

So basically corsi, corsi, and corsi? As for the sv%, I could see that being sustained since he’s been decent at boxing out forwards and letting Demko see the puck, especially on 5v5
- Nucker101

Corsi, Fenwick, WAR, plus the good old eye test. And sure, he might have a net positive on sv%, but currently it is unsustainably high. Like .975 or something.

I’m sure he’ll be flipped to StLouis. Chucky needs a qualifying offer of 9 mil at the end of the season. Gadreau rumoured to be about the same. I heard there’s other players involved for both sides.

I don't hate Myers to be honest, I acutally don't mind him at all as a player. He has been good with OEL, I just think he is overworked and takes too many penalties, which in part isn't even his fault. I don't think anyone could argue this teams RHD depth is great though.

Does anyone suspect some NHL arenas might play crowd noise to amplify the smaller attendance right now?

Football got exposed for this over 15 years ago. No one really cared of course but I'm just curious if this will happen in NHL rinks after they were already doing it during the bubble.

- boonerbuck

I don’t know if teams are augmenting crowd noises but I do know for a fact that there are microphones suspended from the ceiling at Rogers that picks up crowd noise and then it’s amplified over the PA system.

You can hear it through the centre ice speakers when you are in the upper bowl.

Wasn’t he involved in some weird lawsuit with a Victoria stripper? Monty’s Showroom or something like that. I think the stripper sued him for defamation?

A buddy for Pods. I don’t think Hughes and Ratbone will work on the same team. Our D is far too soft
- CanuckDon

Asking a lot from both to be better on D but wouldn’t give up on them yet. No room for a 3rd smallish offensive d man. Comes down to the other 4 being big & can skate & be physical. Big ask. OEL is solid all around. If Woo pans out that’s 1 young RHD under cost control. Leaves it to Myers & Poolman to play up to their contract &/or role. The need for a top pairing RHD is still the biggest team need.

Strong game for Pods . Needs more minutes.
- VANTEL

Idk I think he still needs more isolated mins to develop & get comfortable adjusting to all he has on his plate. 40-50 games into the season would be my timeline unless he forces the issue. Rather see EP get it going so down the middle is stronger & more dynamic. That alone would boost scoring & the PP. Could be another 15-20 games til we see the F depth start to gel as expected.

A bit off topic but I know for a fact networks overdub. Years ago I was at the World Juniors Canada - US when Steve Downey got cheap shotted/did some great acting late in the game. The crowd broke into the loudest "US SUCKS!!" chant I've ever heard right through the player of the game awards. It was awesome.

I was excited to get home and watch the replay to see how the announcers reacted and nothing. It was just normal crowd noise. I called a couple of Buddy's who watched it and they were wondering what I was talking about. It's the entertainment business. You hear what they want you to hear.

Close but I think the biggest need for the Canucks is a coach.

Not who I would target necessarily although certainly buying low. I’m just open to trading Rath
- CanuckDon

Ok I’ll play along if you can tell me for whom or what position otherwise I think we develop him more to make a better asset to move him if at all. His upside has yet to be achieved imo. Could be a very valuable 3rd pairing dynamic with the right partner.

I wonder if Ottawa would be tempted to lay Buffalo’s price to reunite the bros then. Hometown Blues will probably be very interested as well

Could def be a flip back there.... or even a three team trade. Calgary might not want him in STL though.

Corsi/fenwick don’t differ too much from each other, how often do you see a player who’s bad at one and good at the other? War is extremely flawed and even the guy who made it acknowledged that it’s flawed

Sutter just putting up the smoke and mirror trick. They’ve been rumoured in the Eichel sweepstakes all summer. I don’t think anyone expected the Flames to come out the way they did. Hard to break that up for a injured player that requires surgery. Depending on the cost I’d say the Flames are in the talks for sure.

Tkachuk wants to be in the States. Look for that clown to git gone!!

I’m fine with hafling wingers (Garlund is the heart of this team) but it doesn’t work on D. heavy forechecks destroy us
- CanuckDon

Yup that’s a concern. Need faster cleaner breakouts. Under pressure I see too many panic passes or wingers mishandling the puck. Overall it exposes us & teams forecheck us aggressively.

Thanks Carol, if Hammy doesn’t want to be judged he’s going to have to be a bit more open. He’s not some Joe Schmoe.

Didn’t mind Garland with Miller and Petey, would like to see Boeser and Hög with Horvat, dropping Pearson down to play with Dickie.

I also like Podkolzin in the Horvat spot on the PP in pre season, he should get a look on PP 2 instead of Pearson.

That 3v5 kill + Demko's heroics + Miller's epic OT goal is exactly the type of win that can get a team rolling
- Nucker101

Momentum changers & some puck luck changes any teams fortunes. Sometimes riding out the storm is all it takes. If the PP didn’t suck it would look much better.
