Jan Levine: Loss to VAN, lineup thoughts, Kravtsov to KHL, Rempe signs, auto Fox jersey
A couple of topics.... - airjan23
Clearly, niether Zib or Bread are the same players they were pre COVID shutdown.
If it's not Quinn's complicated breakout system, or Gallants much less sophisticated system, is it possible it's the players themselves.
I'm sure the coavhing staff had, or they should go back and look at films of the 2019 season, when both were dominate. Maybe there's a clue there as to why they were so succesdfull.
Regarding Laffy and Kakko, neither are great skaters. I think it's sole reason both struggle. It's a constant effort to keep up, especially in Laffy case. |

I feel like Kakko has an inability to finish

If KK and Laffy turn out to be busts then this whole rebuild would have been a waste. Lias and Kravs would be on the list too.
BUT they wont be, both players came up thru covid, shorten camps, they are learning another system under a new coach. They will adjust and be fine.
Panarin and Zib will be fine also, they look out of sync but Im sure they will rebound.

Vegas will need to clear cap space eventually. Wonder if that opens the door for a Reily Smith trade |

If that’s the case about Zib, the rangers made a huge mistake giving him that deal |

Nice to finally see an end to the Eichel BS. Really interested to see how the disc replacement surgery goes. I think he is going to be a monster for Vegas. |

Seems like the Sabres got a lot less than we were going to give them with Lundqvist, Chytil, Buchnevich, Georgiev, a 2022 first round pick, a 2023 second round pick, a 7th round pick in perpetuity, and a lifetime supply of Colony Grill pizzas. Just sayin'.

Panarin and zib are proven and should turn it around. Laf and Kakko are more concerning bc skating is a huge part to the game as you mentioned. Neither can separate easily or create. Laf can at least finish. Kakko can’t |

Regret this. Top 10 players just entering the prime of their careers never hit the open market |

Except those were all hairbrained fan schemes. Drury might have been like: "You can have Georgiev and a conditional 3rd" |

Well they went down a path of not being able to fit Eichel the moment they signed Zib. I am a little more comfortable with the known commodity of Zib but Eichel has so much potential still.
We could also be looking at him as frequenter of the IR list and not a true contributor for some of his career. Hard to know. |

Kakko CAN create. He is having trouble finishing. Laf looks like he's playing it too safe. I think the coach appreciates him not being a defensive liability but he needs to tell him just go out and play his skill game. |

True, you could be right. I just think it would have changed the rangers cap situation. You get Eichel, you are most likely trading Zib for younger assets, while also moving on from strome. Who knows one of those younger assets is a center who becomes a cheaper better option at 2C then Strome or Chytill. I just think the whole dynamic with the organization would have changed |

It certainly could have.
I honestly think they need to move on from Strome strictly for cap reasons. They need to use their D assets and maybe picks to put some young cheap centers on the roster.
If they can jettison Tinordi and/or Nemeth, Strome can possibly stay. |

I just don’t know what they do then. Chytill doesn’t look like a long term center. They have nothing else in the system outside of Morgan Barron. Who else could they afford? |

Need to pry a center away from LA.
Zibanejad, Vilardi, Barron, random 4th line center. |

I saw someone on Eklunds thread ask if Vegas was over the cap when Eichel returns? I am assuming not by the time he actually takes the ice. |

There is so much hype for Eichel. So over rated. he is not McDavid. For his career he is -69 less than a point per game and 44% on face offs and with my eye test he plays no defense. We also know that he is not a leader from his actions off the ice.
I prefer Zib 9 days until Sunday even at 29 who by the way has a career FO % of 48 (I only state this because is so important for this board)
check out Eichel carrier stats here:

Eichel is better than zib. I agree Eichel is not where near mcdavid but zib is not the complete player Eichel is when healthy
