Eichel is better than zib. I agree Eichel is not where near mcdavid but zib is not the complete player Eichel is when healthy - nyrangers2

There is so much hype for Eichel. So over rated. he is not McDavid. For his career he is -69 less than a point per game and 44% on face offs and with my eye test he plays no defense. We also know that he is not a leader from his actions off the ice.
I prefer Zib 9 days until Sunday even at 29 who by the way has a career FO % of 48 (I only state this because is so important for this board)
check out Eichel carrier stats here:

You do realize what Eichel has been playing with his whole career? Still just about a point per game player. And Zib sucks on faceoffs to so that stat means little to me. The biggest thing to me, Eichel is just 24 and entering his prime. Zib didn't become what he was till his later 20s. Eichel is already producing at an elite rate. |

True, you could be right. I just think it would have changed the rangers cap situation. You get Eichel, you are most likely trading Zib for younger assets, while also moving on from strome. Who knows one of those younger assets is a center who becomes a cheaper better option at 2C then Strome or Chytill. I just think the whole dynamic with the organization would have changed - TPC
We couldnt move Zib, he had a NMC |

Except those were all hairbrained fan schemes. Drury might have been like: "You can have Georgiev and a conditional 3rd" - JRR1285
Exactly. Those were the proposals from all the jackwagons on here. |

But if the Rangers traded for Eichel and made it clear to his reps they weren't resigning him, I think that stance would have changed around the trade deadline. |

based on objective stats- Eichel is worse on face offs. Zib hasnt been playing with any exceptional line mates either. An BTW he is one of our best Pks. Eichel has age on his side but by the time he plays again he will be turning 26 |

Just gonna have to agree to disagree on this. I would take Eichel over Zib if given the choice |

On his old contract he had one I believe. Nobody likes when a player of Zibs caliber just walks. You cant just lose him for nothing.
I think talent wise Eichel has the edge over Zib and of course is younger but that injury is so scary, will he ever be the same?? |

I can definitely see where you are coming from but I don't think the gulf is nearly as big as you are implying. Age is a huge factor but right now Eichel is a huge question mark himself. I was totally willing to get excited if he came here but only at the expense of Strome etc. If it meant Zib was the casualty I just don't see how it would have made sense.
Now a healthy Eichel that wants to come to NY and they have the pieces to make it work... I could stomach losing Zib in that scenario.
Zibanejad will look fine for most or all of his new contract, book it. He might even look like a bargain when the cap skyrockets (if it does ) |

That's the multi-million dollar question.
I remember many wondering if Crosby would ever be the same after he kept getting hurt with concussions. That is all a distant memory now. (I am NOT comparing anyone to Crosby, just an example of injury concern) |

Hall is a very polarizing player to me. He seems to either work or he doesn't. No in between. I am pleased the Rangers never pursued him. |

I mean I don't expect everyone to agree with me. It's Zib's high's and lows that concern me. Yea when he is on he is amazing. As Kreider gets a lot of crap for "disappearing" Zib does the same thing at times throughout the season. And now he is making elite money so he can't. He needs to be a constant force in the lineup night in and night out. And the fact that this 8 year deal doesn't start till after Zib is already 29, idk just worries me some. I hope you are right and he is fine but I have just as many concerns about Zib that you do about Eichel. |

I am with you! Eichel would have been nice in addition to and not instead of. Also Strome is so under valued by this board. His production will be hard to be replaced. I personally do not believe he is a product solely of Panarin. He has produced with the Rangers in all situations. he even looks nice this year on the PK. he has shown us that he is a team leader also and they all love his Mom. If they can get him at a reqsonable rate with out a NMC - it think ti would be great. I for one wouldn't mind trading Krav for little Strome as well.

The NYR equivalent deal is:
Kakko
Chytil
2022 1st
2023 2nd

I definitely have concerns about Zib. But with LTIR and the cap savings that come with it I am not too concerned. If Zib is healthy enough to play, he will be productive.
I just really think they need to get someone on staff that actually knows how to take draws. Not a referee that watched a lot of draws. |

Wait, so they swapped 2023 3rd round picks in this deal too!? Assuming Vegas is getting the lower of the 2 unless Buffalo improves significantly but that’s a really weird contingency.
Hard to look at the return and not get annoyed but Buffalo had to be asking for more from NYR if they had to keep him in state. If Drury couldn’t have made a similar deal, that’s a huge FAIL. |

I am sure like you said that the asking price was higher or included a non-starter. |
