Sanheim was loose on the coverage on Hyman but at least he was positioned on the shooter between him and the net. Ristolainen lost multiple puck battles on that sequence including a lazy and pathetic attempt at a hip check and then casually skated off the boards and was late getting to the passer. Then he takes himself out of the play by going for a push on the passer to where if there had been a save and a rebound, he was completely in no mans land. Just a brutal sequence and reminiscent of most of his play.

Its worth a try, Sandheim has not been good, and maybe steady old Braun can help him. He is a dime a dozen Dman, doesnt bring anything special to the table

But there's no D in Sanheim...

At his best, he brings a hard to find collection of abilities and has played well overall. First game or two were shaky.

Nearly scored on two different plays last game. Lots of blocked shots and hits in the Edmonton game.

Has played well overall.

That’s pretty spot on. It takes some time in a new setting, but I think his last game we all saw an elevation in his play. Hopefully he can help stabilize that 2nd unit going forward.

I just want Chuck to sign RR to an extension so we can talk about him everyday for the next 4 years lol

If you were going to get rid of one of either Risto or Sandheim, which would you get rid of, or who do the flyers need more?
- bradster

Sanheim is underwhelming to this point in his career. I’d keep Risto. He is a far more capable offensive player…those are the FACTS. The actual career stats are indisputable. He is far more physical ( although almost any Flyer d man is more physical then Sanheim). I see the defensive coverage as something both can improve on.

Risto as he is 100% no doubt the player he is; Sanheim still has some upside. Even if one believes he is what he is at this point.

Why does one have more upside? They are only a year or so apart in age ?

My hope is that he continues that play. It was against the coyotes but that’s a start. Of important note, looks like harts playing a lot more like he did two years ago with this mix on d. To me that can’t be discounted.

Agreed, its funny people complain we have up a 1st for RR, but no one mentions we used a 1st on Sanheim.

Thanks Bill. I liked the acquisition. He was the only player on Buffalo I hated to play against. He brings a needed element. He's moving better as he settles in. I watch him in particular. Other than the Bruins game (didn't we win that?) I think he has done a good job. I'm old school. I like to watch the games. Don't drool over stats. I can enjoy subtle aspects of the game.
I love Coots. So smooth.
So far I've enjoyed Ristos play. I'm not seeing all that negative crap. I think he has come as CF advertised and I'm good with that.

before it happened i actually thought they would move sanhiem before myers...as the rhd position is always hard to find. I questioned Myers game last year and while he still has time to develop, he has been a healthy scratch for all but their first couple of games. Soon he too will be what he is.

but when it's all said and done. i take our d this year as opposed to last year. Yes the whole team struggled last year, but Myers was just terrible in his coverage last year.

Said before and others have as well. If york is what we think he is then sanhiem is def the one i move.

Hopefully Hart can keep it up, like you said it was only the coyotes but i thought hart looked the best i've ever seen him look last game.

I've liked Risto. When the other team is cycling through the offensive zone and the play comes to his corner he's been great at stopping the cycle and getting pucks back
- Coburns_Nose

Of the two on the second pair, I’ve enjoyed watching Ristolainen more. Last Tuesday I thought he had a great game. Sadly I’m still waiting for Sanheim’s great game of the season.

It feels like our D is better than last year, even with Ellis injured....i wonder why that is

RR has been improving. I don't ever expect him to have a high hockey IQ bc he just doesn't but he can still learn to make better reads and position himself better. He is Coming out of that poop show in buffalo where even former Hart winner Taylor hall sucked.. let's see how he adjusts here before people wrote him off. He makes some dumb plays but recently he has also made some solid plays and almost netted a couple.
We were missing a bruiser back on the blue like and now we have one which changes the dynamic on the ice for opposition. I know I don't want to get blindsided by RR. My head would be on a swivel the entire time... Where does that attribute show up on the stat sheet?

With the exception of the top pair, under the same circumstances of last season, this defense as a whole would also struggle in my opinion. I'm disappointed in Sanheim so far this season but I question how soon York would be ready for a top 4 role. Flyers have made the mistake before of rushing players too soon. York should break in with limited minutes on the 3rd pair.

Quality teams love to play against player like Ristolainen who take themselves out of position to make a hit. Most good player will gladly take a hit to make a play. I thought that Ristolainen had a decent game last game and I liked his aggressiveness in the 2nd period in moving up offensively but otherwise has been completely mediocre.
