An article predicting who will make the Canadian Olympic team...
I love the continued underestimation of the Islanders players. Barzal is a "long shot" to make the team, because his numbers are down from his rookie season. I guess the author doesn't realize that he was centering the #2 line that season, and that he wasn't asked to play both sides of the puck by Coach Weight.
Pulock and Pelech are not even in the conversation on D.

Let them underestimate the Isles. Better for us if they do. I preferred it when the rest of the hockey world didn't take them seriously and Vegas odds were 7000-1 to make the playoffs. Let them fly under the radar and silently win the Cup. Meanwhile trumpeting this Toronto team as the best to ever lace them up, wondering why the league is even playing the season and not just etching their names into the Cup.
Yeah I believe, unfortunately, they’ll wind up putting it together as a team. Their problem this season has been holding leads in the third as you saw tonight. - Cptmjl
They have a lot to work on but if the talent clicks along with their system they can make a push. Shesty and sorokin battles will be fun to watch this year
Yup, he got injured in Sochi and was out a long time. I also like the lack of recognition as a motivator......not that these guys need extra motivation with Trotz as their coach, but every little bit helps. - JohnScammo
Amen.. what originally got this team together was that mentality.
Panthers getting shalacked by the Rangers. - Cptmjl
I bet the Panthers so that is the reason... in reality though the Rangers have a good coach now and I should have expected after getting smoked by Calgary they would play much a better game.

totally agree.. people forget the first Isles dynasty was constantly overlooked and disrespected until they just kept winning. They had won the president's trophy in 1979 and still Everyone had the Flyers beating them easily. before that the Bruins would beat them... the following year it was "they can't beat Edmonton or the North stars ... finally by the 3rd year they started to get respect.
still furious they didn't win that 5th against Gretzky and the Oilers.
And fans of other teams would blame it on "boring hockey". - JohnScammo
I love when they say we are running a Trap. A few guys have corrected the idiots on NHL network. It's not a trap.. it's just fundemental hockey, keep everything outside in D-zone, forecheck like crazy, don't give up odd man rushes. There isn't 3 guys in the nuetral zone.

My hope is they are so young that they struggle again this year.. especially against us and that Dope that owns them starts moving all the young guys before they get better

Kakko and Laf aren’t coming close to meeting expectations but I would expect they’ll have pretty long leashes. I watch quite a few Ranger games and Kakko especially has to me not been overly impressive so far this season or last. Unnoticeable the vast majority of the time imo. He may put it together but it’s also completely plausible he could be a bust imo.
Edit; I’ll add he has plenty of time to put it together.
Isles are 4th in the league currently in team D for goals against and after 10 games, it’s the second best start in 4 years under Trotz. Looking at all the games being on the road I think the Isles have started well. There’s certainly room for improvement however I think once they get some games at UBS this team will start rolling.
And will have an advantageous second half schedule.
