I thought Myers was better than Schmidt last season. Schmidt was smart to get out while he could though. Said all the right things but couldn't leave fast enough. Says a lot to me when he chose to come here in the first place. - Load Management
I really like most players but I do think there are issues . I am not sure who is the problem but you can see there are players. I hope they fix it. I still think they are building a good product .
Even the losses this year are a lot more entertaining than last years fiasco.

They've lost 5, 1 goal games - the PP & PK are getting destroyed - so the question is just poor luck/execution or does it need to be totally revamped - or a bit of column A column B?
I need at least a 4-7 game winning streak to convince me of anything - Brooks_Light
King is the issue there. He is just regurgitating Browns systems, and doing it worse. He needs to go right away. |

Thanks Carol, I think it’s Khudobin not Khubodin
Either way, if they Face Ho5tby put 5 in the bank, if not I expect a tight low scoring game.
5-1 Canucks or 3-2 in OT against Khudsey
Boeser with the hat trick either way. |

Schmidt was Canucks best Dman last year
Holtby save percentage whent from 889 to 924 . His GAA went from 3.67 to 2.46 - VANTEL
The entire defense struggled last year so it’s hard to really pick one dman who played well |

He’s a pretty young coach and that is his first time running a powerplay in the NHL, I think he’ll get better. I like that he’s mixing up the units to try new things |

This is what i'm leaning towards too.
Why can't we have multiple set plays for the PP?
What happened to having a guy behind the net, who passes to Horvat in front for the bang-bang play.
How about moving the feet a bit to get the PK moving and open up some shots from the point??
Anything but Petey just standing stationary for the one-timer over the net, or JTM with the telegraphed backhand pass to the point...
I'm not on the fire Green bandwagon, but get the frustration.
I wouldn't mind seeing some assistants fired and a vet brought in to keep Green's feet to the fire.
If Green (or more importantly the players!) turn things around, fine.
If they continue to falter, you have the replacement right there.

Edler didn’t want out. Fans wanted it.
Schmidt didn’t bring an answer nor play to his contract worth.
Holtby got paid & was in decline.
Petey & Hughes both need vets to lead them & there is not enough of em. Ppl are quick to joke about mentors but most of the core is young & too few vets in leading roles. - Nighthawk
Edler said himself he wanted a change. Benning was looking to resign him. You are correct that fans wanted him out... but that doesn't negate what Edler said himself.
Schmidt is playing good this season. Canucks as a whole played like poop last season so it's kind of moot pointing to how he played. He was a good D before he arrived. Schmidt wanted out... don't blame him.

Yeah, I didn't hear about any offers made to Edler all year long, I think he just took the hint and saved face by saying that he'll be signing elsewhere.
Schmidt just didn't fit here, seems like a decent player, but clearly the chemistry wasn't there and I feel like he and Holtby just never fit in from day one, I like that Benning recognized this and moved on from both instead of being stubborn about it.
I also agree that the loss of Sutter/Beagle probably has hurt the locker room and the PK, plus in faceoffs, the coaching staff and players will have to adjust. - Nucker101
He requested a trade. Decision was forced on Benning.

Stl was losing a lot of 1 goal games. They were in last place. Fired the coach and won the cup.
Writing is on the wall if Benning smart enough to see it.
I don't want Benning in charge of the draft next season. |

What he is doing is pretty unsustainable but yeah Green is a bad coach.
He would rather lose 3-2 then try and win 3-2 |

Yeah.
But King and Baumer are still there.
I wouldn't be mad if they're let go or reshuffled and a couple more senior coaches brought in (no assistants)

He isn't capable of moving the team in the direction it needs to go.
Add: he is a builder. He built, got a nice core but can't supplement. |

It's early. Lots of kids tend to start quick till the energy wears off and teams play them harder.
See later on who is for real.
Bowen in Col doing real well too. Strong rookie class. |

Until you change coach it’s harder to tell what else is wrong with your team. Players that could seem like a problem under one coach can become effective under another by being deployed and treated properly. |

Through to what? How long does the team flounder? He isn't tweaking little by little anymore. He had to make huge changes and the team still looks like they aren't going to take the next step. |

Then have him coach the AHL special teams. The NHL is no place for a first year special teams coach with little experience, who only does what his predessor did. Only he does it worse, and it didn't work in the first place. We have a lot of skill, and guys who think outside the box. When you have them standing in place and (very predictably) only pass around the outside hoping for the perfect shot... you have an issue. When you pk is sub 70%, you have a MAJOR problem. Below 80% is considered bad, below 70% is beer hockey.
Again, he needs to go back to being a video coach, or just gone... |
