Dude, ever make garlic confit with herbs? Good olive oil, herbs of your choice, and whole cloves of garlic. Cook at 250•F for 1.5 hours. Having guests, wanna be fancy, or just get fat? Throw an entire round of Brie in there as well... Then you can smear roasted garlic, tasty EVOO, and oozing cheese all over crusty bread. - Darksyde
caramalized onions over roasted brie is next level too. simple to make. get jar of onions from loblaws, put on brie, put in oven. |

I found their caramelized onion to be way to sweet for my liking. Too many places add sugar and/or balsamic vinegar to the onions to quicken the browning of the onions. I make my own, low and slow, in butter on the stove. Takes a long time, but so worth the effort.
Then put it on your Brie, wrap in layers and layers of buttered sheets of phyllo dough, and bake away until golden and delicious.
If making individual appetizers, add thyme and black pepper to your onions while cooking, take cubes of gruyere, and wrap in bite sized layers of buttered phyllo, then bake... It's like eating brothless French onion soup. |

sure, you wanna do it that way, go for it. sort of takes away the ability to make it in 10 minutes, but it's really effing good.
There is enough sugar in an onion, that you don't need to add any, you're right. If you cook it long enough and low enough, the sugar in the onion itself is pleny enough. |

Reminds me of the old joke/urban dictionary sex move, The Batman... While engaging in coitus from behind, bring out a flashlight with a bat cutout taped to the lens. Turn it on, flash the bat signal on the wall, yell, "To the Batcave!", and slam it in the butt. (Not recommended, by the way, the ladies get mad for some reason...) |
