To me the benefit is that he is a player that missed a ton of time. He needs to put together a strong string of hockey and to play. If he's playing well, now is not the time to interrupt that. You don't want to risk yo-yoing him up and down. The Flyers while having some obvious holes, have a good record. I think exercising some patience is the best thing.

As much as I am looking forward to seeing frost fins his game and establish himself on the club I agree with all of this!
Don't yo-yo the kid. It won't help him become any more consistent nor is he playing that spectacularly that he just has to join the big team.
Let's see how Hayes looks when he is back and see how the lines are constructed and reevaluate this topic again soon

thats when they shouldve done a rebuild, trading schenn for a pick that wouldnt be ready for a few years wouldbe been the perfect timing to trade others. The whole trying to stay competitive while rebuilding rarely works.

Definitely a challenge to juggle both at the same time

Hart was amazing last night and there were stretches where the team played well, but there are still some big red flags.

1. The pp is a disaster right now and a different voice is needed. It’s time for Therrien to be replaced.

2. They badly need more skill up the middle and expecting Hayes to jump right in and be a good 2C is not going to end well. It’s time to give Frost a look. Laughton can only do so much and would be better on the wing.

3. Yandle, when not on the pp, is virtually useless. The quicker they can get York or Zamula up to replace him, the better.

4. Braun has held his own but they are asking too much of him. Ellis needs to get well asap.

5. Finally, AV needs to do a better job of making adjustments and with his matchups. Relying on the goaltender to stand on his head every night until you figure things out is not a long term recipe for success

Rick Tochett will be in town this week. He had some PP success as assistant coach with the Pens. Granted, they had studs on the PP but I’m sure Toc can find something that works for this group. Tell Therrien to pack his bags and give Toc a shot! Could be any worse!

I'll even drop him off at the bus station to make sure he doesn't miss his ride out of here

You're kidding right? What did AV do last night going into the 3rd?

- jd250

You really are clueless. The guy made adjustments one time in 12 games, he’s really all over it huh

I don't know what Frost's ceiling is because honestly we just have not seen enough of his play at an NHL level. However, if all he turns out to be is a Nick Cousins middler, I thin that would be a big miss given what the Flyers gave up to move up and pick him. Lets hope Frost develops to be more than this.
- jd250

Which is my concern with the kid not much play at NHL level.
Rips up juniors.
I did see a few deft passes early on when he first came up...hit the wall.
Year 2 not much to write home about then has shoulder surgery.
Now in the A, my take is that if he was really asserting himself game in game out NOW, he would be up here already.
He has not come close to being a catalyst of any sort for a team desperately in need of an injection of something, something an NHLer would be doing in the A.

I don't wanna be a downer on Frost. I wouldl love the kid to be a Flyers star.
I wish we could call up somebody and have them begin to really excel.
Or have a draft pick really have an impact.
Last one I can remember was Ghost then he was figured out with pro scouting.
Oskar going good then well Phuck...I'm amazed dude is even playing.
Farabee, Hart jury out still, doing good/ok so far.
G was last....?
Laughton middler...
We have a string of hopefuls and career Ahlers. I harken to a time when we had full cupboards of "potential"NHL talent.
It goes back to we get JVR and Blachphucks get Kane.
NP WTF.
We aren't even getting anything from TK but a dude that frantically skates all over then sends an errant pass or coughs up the puck or shoots wide....
I think we can't have nice things.

The only reason Morgan Frost isn't an NHL player today is because of injury. He was well on his way to being a solid NHL'er.

It’s amazing to see the change in tone on Frost’s potential. He showed in his first call-up that he belonged based on his skills alone. Coming off a major injury that ate into needed developmental playing time and a team-wide sluggish Phantoms start means it may take some time to get back to where he was.

Anyone who thinks losing an entire season isn't a factor, simply doesn't have any common sense.

Dude what don't you get...
I wish the kid all the success in the world, I don't share the optimism of him returning to that player before the injury.
Yes he WAS "on his way"
Shoulder surgery is no joke, especially for a young kid. Note Tarasenko
I don't care how much he trains etc dislocating again will always be a thought in the deep reaches of his brain. I think this will be his impediment to greatness.
I remember each and every dislocation i had including the worst one after surgery.

Um since Ghost? Really??
Provorov is has been a top pair guy since his 2nd pro season.
Konecny? Sanheim?
Oskar was doing great until he had the horrible misfortune of contracting cancer. I refuse to give up on him.

Hart had the dreaded sophomore slump (the team in front of him was no help) but he seems the real deal to me and Farabee might have been the only bright spot last year. Farabee is also playing pretty well this season when you consider that he’s spent much of it with a 4C on his line.

Frost has been slowed by injury, but there is no reason to think that he won’t put it together and both Foerster and York look like quality prospects.

Jeez, and they say I’m negative!

Lindblom has really been playing well. He has just been completely snake bitten. It's a matter of time until he starts potting some goals.

My bad Provorov given but he has been uneven at times of his career.
Maybe I'm just in camp show me the match...
I hope Frost can be something special.
I just lack the shared optimism and it for the reasons sited
missing a year and having major shoulder surgery.

We all hope Frost will make it. But we also have to deal with reality.

He missed a lot of time with a major shoulder injury/surgery. Some players are never the same after this type of injury. Some lose range of motion, strength, etc. And their career trajectory changes as a result.

Hopefully, he's just rusty.

He missed time so expect there to be some rust. He may need time to get his game legs under him. However, a concern I noticed, as well as Bill pointing out, is that Frost's overall game has been inconsistent.

At 22 and a RFA at seasons end, you'd hope that he would show more maturity in his game.

Laughton was a 1st round pick and survives in the NHL as a bottom 6 forward because of how he competes. So just because Frost was drafted in the 1st round does not mean he will make it in the NHL. And many players put up points in the AHL and never become scorers in the NHL. Remember Peter White?

As for JVR. He does not have much value. $7 million cap hit that runs another year after this. The time to move him may be in the summer. And could involve giving up picks for a team to take that contract off our hands. If you want Giroux resigned, they will need the cap space. At 1 goal in 12 games so far this season, his value is not much. Hopefully he starts scoring so that can change.

It's not about maturity. It's about missing a full season and coming off of a major injury. Need to give him some time.
