Salary retained? Some people hate Lafferty here. Hagelin is just old right now. - Barnaby36
Nope, the whole point is just to get rid of Hags cap hit. |

I feel like people acting like this is a year tradition, then the Pens go on a crazy winning streak and those people play down how they previously reacted.
Based on how good the depth has been I think this Pens team has the potential to better than the last few years. - Rinosaur
Eh, I think they could make the playoffs, but Sid/Geno/Letang aren't good enough anymore to go deep imo. |

To everyone blowing it up & keeping sid- Does sid want to play for a pile of junk, with all his friends gone? I’d guess he would do it, just because, but u know he still wants to try to win. I wouldn’t try to force him to be moved, but if it’s a fire sale, he’s obviously gonna get u the most in a trade. If it’s just a business, like so many say, someone would pay a crazy amount for him.
They don’t look like they’re in winning form right now, but I can’t call it yet. Too many people out, too often.
Go from Sully has the Jack adams in the bag after 6 games, to we’re blowing it up after 14? Geez. Quite the emotional roller coaster! - wsldck
Well the truly ideal situation would be trading Malkin and Letang and resigning both to fair contracts in the offseason. If those guys really want to win another cup in Pittsburgh, that is actually the only chance we would have of getting there.
As for Sid, no clue what his motivations are. I do expect that Brady going to Tampa and winning there would make it easier for him to make up his mind on moving. If we are just going off a cliff and dont expect to compete in the next few years, I would hope they would honor Sid with a trade to the team of his choice.
While I'd rather see him win in Pittsburgh, I think the challenge of playing for a Canadian team and winning a cup there would rank high on his list. I also think it would be cool to see him and Mackinnon on the same team. |

I agree, but I just think this is the most balanced depth we've had in a while. Not to say last year's wasn't good, but seeing how many people are able to not just contribute on the score sheet, but play well at all ends of the ice, that might be the thing they need to let Geno and Sid excel.
I could see this team being more like the Islanders than the Pens of the past, but with more scoring potential. Obviously many things have to align like health and goaltending.

Some of us totally expected duds when all these players returned, some of which from having a respiratory illness that effects lungs and energy levels. Even the Caps intermission guys were saying they really hoped their Caps didnt end up in the situation the Pens did so far this year with their players coming back and trying to get up to game speed, that it was a rough situation to get results from. Sid only has 2 games under his belt and didn't have much of a pre season.
Besides the last game, even in the loses, I've been pretty pleased with them despite the loser points given all the circumstances. They have been the better team in more periods than not in this very early season IMO. Speaking of which, 68 games left and 3 points out of the 4th playoff spot in division and wild card spot. The Isles, who were just a few wins from the finals last season, who people that post here get hard ons for, that are considered to be a really good team, just lost their 3rd in a row and are in dead last in the division....sooooo much season left.

The Penguins have switched up their bottom-six. Boyle appears to be out while Simon is in. This is the order they used:
Guentzel-Crosby-Rust
Zucker-Carter-Kapanen
Heinen-Rodrigues-Simon
Aston-Reese—Blueger-McGinn
Dumoulin-Letang
Pettersson-Marino
Matheson-Ruhwedel
Current lines. Boyle is an extra. |

Last two games withstanding, the results don't reflect how good this team is actually playing. This is a very good team without their best players. Getting such a glut of players back in can cause a little disruption as far as lines gelling, so I think it will take a game or two before they get into a groove.

They just got smoked by a caps team without Backstrom, Oshie, and Mantha. The Pens suck. |

I agree with all this. The tear it all down in mid November, when every night so far there's been close to a half a dozen starters missing, crew can fly to fvck. I dont have delusions of them being a top contender at the moment, but man, if they can keep a level play like we've seen so far with Sid and Geno in lineup and them coming close to how they produced last season, they can do some damage.

And ottawa for that matter. The season will have ups and downs so hopefully they can bounce back here once healthy. I will say the powerplay being so horrendous isn't helping things.

Not to mention this depleted lineup took down FLA two days before that. Even if this team was healthy it still could have happened. EDM lost to BUF the other night. Good teams lose to bad teams all the time. He's just a miserable bastard and likes to run around like a little kid pissing in everyone's cheerios.

Haha if anything lately I only check on here twice a day and more often than not this site is having issues. I can assure you my post rate has nothing to do with the pens success or lack of success. |

well hopefully there aren't too many more covid cancellations because if so the NHL being part of the Olympics will not be very likely...
