Thompson is a glue guy with some sandpaper to his game. He also touches the Grit n Grind sign on the way out of the Flyers locker room. These things are an invaluable presence for a winning hockey club. - StepfordSam

Oh goody. More Nick Seeler. đź’©đź’©đź’© - PLindbergh31
Ellis is out long term. Makes perfect sense to play Seeler instead of 2 dman who have pretty good upside and will no doubt offer you more. AV is a clown and the sooner he is gone the better.
Will the GM make a move for another vet dman, one who is clearly better than Seeler. Any old type dman out there who fit the AV mold?

Ellis will be having surgery. You can take it to the bank. |

Couldn't at least have Oskar on the 4th line? If anybody needs to be scratched and use a reset I'd go with Farabee. |

Why should either be scratched? Brassard should be moved to the 4th line and sit Thompson.

Really no recourse as it is obvious that we don't have a single option in the A right now. They are still learning how to be Pros and are not ready, bringing them now to get humiliated could set their development back.

There are two talented young defensemen that could be recalled, with Ellis likely out long term, and Braun being forced to carry more minutes.
Yet they choose the slop that is Seeler.
I understand talent evaluation, and proper development is something this team strongly lacks in. |

Ryan Ellis plays the right side. The Flyers are not going to bring up either York or Zamula to play their off side.
The internal options are, do what they've been doing and recall Seeler. They could call up Glendening instead. The could move Sanheim to the right side and play him with Provorov, which they've done before but they likely don't want to break up that 2nd pairing now as they struggled for most of the season and have played better lately. If they did do that, that would mean playing Zamula or York on the left side with Ristolainen on the 2nd pair. They aren't going to do that. |

This was my point the other day, especially since someone wanted a call up and to have Sanheim play the right side with Provy lol. Zamula is a lefty though? |

You answered your own question by mentioning the idea of Sanheim with Provorov.
You correctly state that they won’t do so, I need not truly argue it further because the results will likely speak for themselves.
I will maintain they are very poor at properly integrating, and developing young players. This is just another example.
The fear of playing a young defenseman on the second pair is intriguing. Of course, the Flyers are cowards when it comes to their young players. |

Did you not read what else was said about moving Sanheim to play with Provorov? It would be terrible player management to put either player in that spot at this point.
Did you not see what happened last year when they elevated young players too high?
What they are doing now, is no doubt the best available internal option. |

I don’t think it would be terrible player management at all, we will simply disagree here.
They are kidding themselves if they think Braun is the right long term candidate for the first pair, and we are heading into long term territory quite quickly. No, neither Sanheim or Braun is ideal there but Travis is a much more viable option, especially on a team struggling to transition.
I refuse to mandate what moves this defense core could make based on fear of upsetting a second pair, because there is perhaps fear of acknowledging that Ristolainen was a mistake to begin with. Is he not able to transition away from Sanheim or help a rookie, after essentially 7 full NHL seasons of his own?
There is no viable rationale why either York or Zamula shouldn’t be up here. The payoff to the club is very much worth it, instead of trying a known entity in Seeler.
Again, the Flyers are very poor at developing their kids so I am not surprised. Stagnation is very much a theme under this regime. |

There is not a problem with integrating young players here.
The problem is the young players from the Hextall era were overrated. See our young stable and f d prospects from 3- 4 years ago for examples.
Possible Zamula and York will be ready later in the year. Maybe they won’t. Either way the coach can only play the players he has at his disposal.
He is not scouting the Phantoms nor is he blocking anyone. He is told where guys are at in their development and they make a joint decision.
Seems like some fans just want to bring up the next prospect every time there is an injury. Some guys play the right side some play the left. Some can kinda do both on d. Not many, but some are ok on both sides.
Either way, there are a few variables involved in calling these guys up. |

What you say isn’t necessarily wrong when speaking about things in general.
I would strongly encourage caution in deferring to the Flyers making the correct decision when it comes to development.
Were some of those players overrated? Perhaps, and likely so as optimism loves to creep in to mask reality. It’s incredibly hard to build a truly talented team by essentially always picking in the middle of the first round.
However, trends do start to become more clear when nearly every young player stagnates. I can’t emphasize that enough, we can’t simply ignore that it seems like these kids struggle to grow their games. It’s too easy to simply blame the players, which is exactly what Vigneault seems prone to do.
There needs to be a true analysis of “why”, although I am not sure the current regime is willing to do so. It’s not rushing them in, because this team more often than naught tries to block them with over the hill veterans, or known AHL’ers when able. |
