Maybe 5v5
I was looking at all situations and per/60 because some teams have played less/more. - Garnie
At any rate, it's 5v5 where there is room for improvement both offensively and defensively. Matthews in particular has not yet hit his stride 5v5 at all yet, and he typically has dominated the league with his 5v5 numbers. But overall I'm liking where the team is at. |

Leafs d has been great
Seems to be that your "the Leafs D was only good because of the North division" line is dead...It has been even better this year - Santo_44
Nah. The Leafs benefitted greatly from being in a division that was absolutely atrocious last season. Jack Campbell was outstanding last year and he's been standing on his head this year (witness his unsustainable QS%).
The team D this year has also benefitted from the creation of a shutdown-centric 3rd line -- Kampf and Kase have been fantastic. There seems to also be a team commitment from the forward group across the board to play two-way hockey. William Nylander is a great example of this new ethos. (one could make an argument that the offence has regressed slightly as a result)
But sure, if you want to push the reductive take that this year's results somehow retroactively prove last year's D was actually elite, knock yourself out. |

I had soft chocolate chip cookies and a bagel with egg, bacon, cheese and boston lettuce for breakfast.
Today is going to be a good.

I can tell the Leafs are good defensively by watching the games. Campbell has been good too, but not prime Hasek or anything - Zezel
Oh, Campbell hasn't been matching the oeuvre of the greatest goalie of all-time?
Campbell has been Vezina quality so far this year - let's not take anything away from what he's been to this team. The team has been more committed defensively and the 3rd line has been terrific playing a primarily defensive role, but if Campbell wasn't elite right now this team wouldn't be in its current position (it's fun being able to goalie other teams for once!).
Having said that, I've been much happier with the commitment to D this year. Just hope the O can step it up as I feel Jack is playing unsustainably amazeballs right now. |

Yep, not looking too bad.
Just keep the odd man rushes to a minimum and we should be ok. |

Team eye test! I'm on your team!! 😍 - fifty__missions
I think stats are useful, but sometimes treating them like laws of nature can lead to some bizarre Tanner and Yost thinking |
