I don't think Tanev had the same results. He had a good season with Hughes and is finding success in Calgary.

You point to him being away from Hughes which surely contributes but so does playing with a better defensive team as a whole.

That's not to say that Poolman sucks but if he doesn't pair well with Hughes, it's on Green and JB to find someone who will.

The point being that if QH is a central piece to the team's future, they have to find ways to make it work.

This shouldn't turn into a "does QH really fit in long term?" because JB already answered that with the contract.

Hughes lacks a true top pairing above him for his skills & game to flourish. Basically still need 2 top 4 RHD. He’s a 3 D imo & PP specialist breakout D man. OEL is fine in the top pairing.

You think that's crazy, my city tax bill came in this week. Yearly taxes are almost 5 figures.

Best place to live but you gotta pay for the privilege.

Another JB long-term contract mistake. I have no problem having offense from the defense, but not a 7 million for a big time defensive liability, who is arrogant and easily pressured.
- Reubenkincade

He’s +5 and almost scoring a PPG on one of the worst structured teams in the league both coach and GM wise. Suck it Reuby

The answer is currently short of about 600 less minutes together, Tanev and Hughes only had a better CF% than what Hughes and Poolman have currently.

Poolman isn't Tanev, that's for sure but Tanev-Hughes pairing wasn't anything special.

Obviously a better defensive team helps, which isn't hard when Green's teams have been the worst for his entire 5 years.

Hughes will hopefully grow but Hughes will never be a complete defender and always need someone to bring up the part of his game that is weak.

Finally... at last you've come off the fence with regards to Hughes. We've all been speculating because we couldn't tell your opinion.

Seriously though... He's still young and has lots of growing to do (on ice and off.)

It really comes down to what the team does with him. He needs better coaching and a steady partner. He will be elite. Whether it's solely offensive depends largely on the team from here.

Team D aka the centre have a big role in winning. They alone are not performing well enough & too many odd man rushes. Wingers are soft but more puck possession would make that ok. Comes back to C & them needing to lead their lines.

I pay a little over 8K a year for city taxes and I live 20 minutes outside of Winnipeg.

Actually not really. It's trendy but it's not even west side. Got lucky on timing and opportunity.

Relax

the 77 cm of snow that BC got a couple years ago over 2 days is more than what MB gets combined in winter.

Cannot understand $8-12k taxes.
Makes no sense without more info.
Eg. The mill rate.

I think he could be more but you may be right.

I think we all agree that he needs to be a bit "sheltered," which in my mind is absolutely fine due to his age and potential.

You know that if I did the same job as I have now in BC, I would also get to take home $600 more per month after taxes. Same salary.
