This obviously don’t look good. I had covid about a few months ago and still feel some effects. This might take a while. Such a promising season but who knows what will happen

The problem is that the team was playing like crap BEFORE they got hit with the Covid bug. I suppose you can blame it on the early season schedule of all those out-of-town games, but I think that's a cop out too. This team is not overly blessed with talent, so they need to overcome that with effort. That has been working for them in the playoffs which they were built for. But it's tougher to summon up that extra effort over the course of 82 games. And so, for the most part, I haven't seen that extra effort this season. Those extra playoff rounds and the team's advancing age are probably contributing factors to the team looking tired at times.

This is pretty much a hopeless situation at this point. If we somehow make the playoffs it will be a miracle.

Their gap control is awful and they don't box out in front of the net or tie up sticks

Between Pulock and Nelson out. The covid protocol list of players that grows daily and the way the rest of the division is playing I would put our chances at slim to none. The way this team has played I think they agree not looking forward to this Ranger game

I'd agree with the vast majority of your sentiment. For most of the last several seasons, the Isles have typically had a November slump where they had a sub .500 record. They are the oldest team in the league and are facing their first full season in 3 years. If they make the playoffs, they have a chance to do some damage. Guess we'll see where it goes.

I agree and would add that they are getting beat to loose pucks more than in the recent past. They are also getting trapped in their zone more often.

Amen and especially the latter. That honestly was a problem last year but has become tenfold this year. Overall their positional awareness has been awful. How many goals have we seen when a cross-ice pass has made and four of our guys are on the same side?

The need for a 13 game opening road trip was naturally self-inflicted with the arena not being ready but I will say this: the NHL schedule makers completely screwed the Islanders by continually sending them cross country during that road trip. 13 Road games and only one was anywhere close to New York with the Jersey Devils game. Otherwise we're bouncing around the West Coast into Florida, Canada, etc. They could have made sure to at least have a game or two against our divisional opponents to minimalize the mileage but instead sent us on a globe-trotting ridiculous endless trip. Despite the gaps in the schedule I think that was a death sentence for our overall record.

Meh the bottom line is the team didn’t play well for the most part on that road trip. We would see glimpses of the team we’re accustomed too but that was it. Sometimes we would pull out a win with that glimpse of good for the most part no. The bottom line is our regulars with an intact lineup for the most part crapped the bed. They’re all pros that’s on them imo. Now with our current situation that problem is compounded. A lot of this was self inflicted covid was just the nail in the coffin…

No question, they've massively underperformed. I really don't think we've seen a complete game from them yet. Fact is that Sorokin carried us in a few of our wins early in. Theres a long list of players that just aren't producing as expected. While they've turned in a good effort night in and night out, the Parise, JPP and Palmieri combo has been a big disappointment in terms of goal production. I don't think the identity line has been particularly good and other than Pelech, the defense has been awful.
It's unfortunate that this home stretch was the real opportunity to get things going and instead is totally derailed by the slew of covid cases and injuries.

100%. Not to mention that they're getting beat in the corner battles in the offensive zone more often than not.

In actuality, the 13 game road trip wasn't all that bad. They had multiple opportunities to be at home, sleeping in their own beds and practicing in their own practice rink. And the west coast games were Arizona, Winnipeg and Vegas. All the other games were east of the Mississippi. For whatever reason they came out cold and have continued that, unfortunately. Not sure what they need to do, but they need to do something to change the tide. I'm not necessarily suggesting a trade, but something has to be shaken up. And the power play is absolutely putrid.

Agree with all of this though I’ll heap on the “identity line” a bit and say they’ve been (frank)ing terrible. That’s been the most consistent thing since the season started

Palmieri and any other regular left in the lineup has not delivered. Not enough desperation in their game from game one to now. Yeah we’re notoriously slow starters and blah blah blah I get it I say the same bs myself but there’s a reason our current situation is most likely season obliterating and that rest solely on the players shoulders.

Coaches can only do so much. After that, like you said, it's on the players. Somebody has to step up. Or maybe it's a problem of some guys trying to do too much on their own and not playing the system?

Agreed. Idk maybe everyone is seeing something I’m not but this team has been pretty putrid from game one. Same coach, same system I’m sure, same players save for Parise and Chara(I’ll leave Palmieri out for obvious reasons). Losing Leddy was impactful and Palmieri has disappointed. All negatives but in all honesty what stood out to me was a consistent lack of effort from the vast majority of our lineup every night pre this covid protocol crap. Whatever the reason they’re not playing as well as we know they can. All of this other stuff out of their control notwithstanding sucks but they’re not doing their jobs and haven’t been since game one.

I agree with Keaner without Sorokin standing on his head you could probably subtract a few wins. Pelech to me had been the only player out their hustling every night before he went out. With even mediocre goaltending and god forbid Pelech we would have the worst record in the league right now.

Have to agree. Sorokin definitely put a few “W”s on the board himself.

The fact they are still playing is a joke. 5. 7. 10. What does it matter…the league is poopting the bed. The only good thing if they play tonight is that at least it’s the Rangers they’d be in close contact with

The old Chara would’ve infected every player on the opposing team for the last few games. The new Chara not so much. Matthews and Tavares have no worries he didn’t make contact with either
