This has possibility of being worse season that last year.
- wbroudy

Not at least if Hart's level of goaltending thus far this season continues to hold-up (knocks wood).

Much appreciated. Always entertaining to see Uncle Miltie in drag.

And RIP Dirty Diana (Lisa Dean).

Still wondering after all these years who the girl is at 2:02.

Wow, you really hate Giroux. Gotta admit it’s kind of a nice break from the RR good/bad argument

True. Just felt good not to see more RR debate.

I’m about to watch the Eagles. DVRd it.

This is a rather surprising beat-down. On all sides of the ball.

They are playing weak teams, and there are multiple issues with running the offense this way as a long term strategy, but it is intriguing for now.

By the way, I was thinking of you the other day, when we finished watched Elena Ferrante's My Brilliant Friend. It is really an amazingly good series, one I did not think could be made today. I saw it on HBO Max, thanks to a pal.

Since you liked The Investigation, and I am glad you recommended it, I thought I would return the favor.

Look at this offensive incompetence. It's hard to fathom how awful this team has been offensively.

Farabee 1 point last 13 games
Lindblom 1 point in 15 games
Van Riemsdyk 2 goals in 16 games
Macewan/Brown/Thompson 3 points total in a combined 36 games played
Laughton 4 points in 16 games

This more than half of your regular forwards literally doing (frank)ing nothing over the course of 20% of the schedule.

- PLindbergh31

Yeah Lindblom hasnt been effective in those tight board battles. Even after the puck is freed, I just see slow reaction time, slow hands, and the other team is off and running with it the other way. He was great off the rush, a decent netfront pp presence, a slick passer but none of that seems to clicking with him and his line mates right now. Too bad you cant send him down for a bit.

Eagles better not F this up. A lot of time left.

We watched the first season. I thought it was just OK. I didn’t like it enough to keep watching. Wish I could find another series as good as The Investigation.

Been thinking about this today. Hayes is hurt and its not clear if and when he is coming back. Allison is hurt and its not clear if and when he is coming back. As much as Brassard has filled in admirably, the Flyers have no debt at center and its killing them; they have been playing a patch work lineup and its catching up to them. Their PP is atrocious, though they scored a rare PP goal last night, and their 5 on 5 scoring has dried up. Early in the season they scored a lot of lucky goals so it was due to dry up and it has. I believe Fletcher has to act now and identify a good 2C. He has to trade JVR, picks and maybe retain salary to do so. Given the games coming up this week, this 2 game losing streak can easily turn into a 5 game losing streak and given the division they are in that can be disastrous. Though Frost is playing better and maybe even be ready, until he demonstrates can be an impact player in the NHL he is not gong to be enough. Maybe CF can pry Thomas Hertl from San Jose or ID another player, but the Flyers cannot keep sending this lineup out there game after game.

That's a really bad idea. First of all JVR is not exactly having a great season. So think about it. Are you going to get a 2C from a good team for JVR and a pick? No you're not. They're going to keep their 2C. How about from a team that is rebuilding or heading in that direction? Why would they want JVR? They may take him as a cap dump which will drive up the cost on top of the cost for a 2C.

Look at what's going on. Look at the moves they made in the off season. You know, remember the culture change? What did it accomplish? Is this team in the realm of contention? No!

Stop trying to trade your way there. No way should they be trading for a rental.
They absolutely should remain patient and wait on Frost, Allison, etc. If they make the move you're suggesting, they'll be doing the same thing that I told you in the Summer that they would be doing. Still waiting.

I think its time for a reset, ronnie shouldve done that when he traded schenn instead of trying to rebuild and stay competitive. He was a failure, drafting and rebuilding. We have no difference makers in the system. We are prob a top line forward from being a good team, and thats pretty hard to get. Everyone that last year was the fluke, because they were so good the year before are mistaken. The prior year was the fluke. Oskar isnt cutting, Joel doesnt even look good, besides the fact he isnt getting points. MAybe if we had a healthy ellis and hayes we could better judge how we are . We dont even know what we have in frost, is he going to be good? Average? We need a difference maker.
At least we got rid of jakes contract lol

True. The guy is a gamer and a hell of a competitor. Not sold on him as the right player. I think the Eagles are doing a disservice to their future by tailoring the offense to him.

Agree with you. Love hurts. He is a stud of a person and is a gamer and will, in my opinion, lead them to a good chunk of regular season wins. However, I’m of the mindset there is a very apparent ceiling on him and the type of offense they are installing.

That when Tocchet was traded to Pens, On a shift with Mario, Tocchet just dumped the puck. When they got back to the bench Lemieux said to RT, "this isn't Philly anymore we maintain possession."

The hope is this: they give him time to develop his D reading skills, instead of a win now mentality, and those skills do come.

They hung almost 250 yards on a team ranked 1st against the run in the league. They did it with an utterly 1 dimensional offense. This kid Richarderson is a beast in opening lanes. And Hurts is a horse.Funny his legs are so strong and his arm is weakish.

Looking ahead, teams have had success being heavily run oriented, though it is getting more rare. But usually, you need to have a dominant D for that model.

The NFL is a passing league. You have to be able to run to keep the defense honest or in case of bad weather. The Eagles need to determine if Hurts can be a prototypical NFL quarterback that they can build around. They aren't going to find out with so many running option plays. It may be the best way to win a few games now but not long term.

But the point is, you don't have the horses to compete in the "passing league."
You have huge horses in the run game.

Given that, choose between the following options:

1. Stick to a passing game, and perhaps develop your qb/test his mettle but also risk overloading a rookie qb with pressure

2. Play to your strengths and hope that comes over time. In particular, don't forget that if they keep getting 200 yards on the ground, D will have to bring more guys into box, and this will help Hurts throw.

I am not saying 2 is necessarily the way to go. Just that there is a case to be made for it.
