This is what I have been saying since I started to watch Vlader. He looks composed, positionally solid and stays calm in net. Yes, with Rittich and Gillis and other goalies... they never gave that feeling of being composed and calm. I remember Gillis he was all over the net and Rittich at times was great but consistency was an issue. Let's hope Vlader keeps this up, which I think he will based on what I have seen so far. A goalie that is confident, composed and plays relaxed is a recipe for success

There was a poster on the Oil thread that was saying Koskinen would win the Vezina a couple of years back. I, personally, believe it was Chiarelli. But, cannot prove it. Anyways, the moral of the story is Goaltenders are Voodoo. Being a starter that can be stable, play more than 60 games, and not get lost in doubt after letting in a horrible goal is a long way away from being a decent backup.

I think part of the reason they brought in Vladar was that he is similar physically to Markstrom. Goalie coach can teach both the exact same tactics.

If you have not read this article by Ken Dryden it's a hella good read.

Interesting

It's also interesting that me saying that Vlader reminds me of Kipper started all this discussion and we have reached over 50 comments which rarely happens with us But I do think Flames are in good hands from goaltending position. This is the best they have been since Kipper left. I do agree with you guys that playing back up is not the same as a starter goalie. Let's hope we have excellent 1 - 2 goaltending punch... it can take us far

I have noticed that since the team has been playing well there are almost less comments.

I can only speak for myself, but I am cautiously optimistic. This team is playing better than it did under Peters. Which was the best the team had played since forever.

I am enjoying the ride. This team has a backbone it has been missing since Iggy left.

Team is playing with structure & this is the heaviest functional Flames team I have seen in a while. Many basted Treliving for Zadorov & Gudbrandson, but we finally have some big hombres that clear the front of the net & punish forwards. There is a reason why both goalies have looked as good as they have. We also have a balance of smaller very skilled players that are playing with as much confidence as Ive seen in awhile. When was the last time you saw Gaudreau throw a hit like he did on Haula. Chucky doesnt have to be a tough guy & fight everyone, he just has to pi$$ them off. Most of all they are playing the same consistent game, especially on the road. Personally Im shocked they have bought into this system so quickly. They are starting to believe in themselves as a team. Hope they can keep this going but these fast starts never hurt come March. These are the points you want to bank right now. Because other teams are going to get better as well.

Yes I agree completely with you kevin that structure is the main thing that is going for the Flames. Structure is also the main reason for shutouts. Sutter always says that Shutout is more indicitive of team play than individual performance.

That was just that moron JB. No knowledgeable poster said Koskinen would win anything.

Dont you have a coach to find? Heard Babcrotch itching to spread his touch in that Canucks dressing room.
