Anthony Travalgia: Bruins not built to battle through nights like Sunday A lack of execution and an off night from the Bergeron line is not the way the Bruins are going to win hockey games.

That last statement is the most troubling... go back to our identity? That's the problem... this team has had no identity for the past several years. They're no longer the big bad bruins or any type of team that can even compete physically. They're not an offensively gifted team, not a team with a stellar defence, not a team with elite goaltending ... nor a team that is the least bit uncomfortable to play against. They are- and have been a one line team - and when that one line gets shut down, this team goes nowhere. That is the identity that has proven unsuccessful the past several post seasons... and by the looks of things, will repeat itself yet again. Sweeney swung and missed by bringing in several underwhelming players this off season- in one that he actually had cap flexibility to make some impactful changes. All that is showing as of now is a whole lot of wasted $$$ and a wasted opportunity.

I wouldnt say they have had no identity. They have lost to some pretty good teams in the playoffs, and went to the cup a few years ago. Even as far as last year should have beat NYI, but ran into a hot goalie.

I think the teams identity for quite some time has been a defensively sound team that is hard to play against and stand up for each other. Bring an intense forecheck, and out work a lot of teams. An elite PP,
top 3 in the league that will take care of business, usually followed up by elite goaltending from Rask and Halak. They were never out of a game, get down by 2 or 3 and claw back, and do the same in the playoffs. Perhaps this year they are not getting that one save here or there at critical times of the game.

You are talking past tense here.

We are talking about how they are this year and going forward.

They are 10-6. If they were 6-10 I’d be more concerned. It hasn’t been great but it’s early. They are basically the same team as last year, I’m confident they find their way.

Their not the same as last year. Stop with this hard to play against identity. The defense has no snarl , the forwards have top end talent and depth but no bite. The bottom guys are all the same. There is a difference between hard working and hard to play against. Miller, Lauzon, Tinordi, Ritchie, Kuraly etc put some fear, some anxiety in other teams. They defended the front of their net and were hard and nasty on other goalies. I know Ritchie hasn’t scored but Lazar and the whole 4th line has one goal combined. Gryz , Reilly, Zboril have no net front presence. Forbert hits no one and Carlo isn’t having a good year. None play with the fire of McAvoy. Same up front Marchand is a fireball , always scratching and clawing . He has no backup, no intense in your face answer the bell type to develop a team identity. This team is good ,a middle of the pack probable playoff team. Hard to play against , please . Just watch them against big strong teams . Sweeney made a team moving away from Bruin identity and tradition .
