Oh well, they played a good game, nice effort by the guys tonight - BetweenTheDots
A good game?
Stats tonite, 5x5:
CF - 39-60
SF - 21-35
SC - 18-34
HDSC - 6-11.
And my eyes didn’t see much different.
Hagel is 2nd on the team in goals with 6.
Kane has 2 goals in his last 9 games.
Kubalik hasn’t scored in 13 games.
Strome has 1 goal in 12 games.
Dach hasn’t scored in 12 games.
Toews has scored in two years.
They’ve scored more than 3 twice this season, more than 2 only seven times.
Without Fleury playing as well as he has, King’s record wouldn’t be any better than Colliton’s.
Question is: are there enough scorers here to turn this around? Except for Reichel (and, dare I say it, maybe Nylander), there don’t seem to be any in the system. |

I thought he played a good game. Couldn’t keep the puck in at the end, but that happens, at least he didn’t turn it over. - LAHawk
Curious your thoughts on Borgstrom? I find myself isolating on the kid's shifts. See a lotta IQ, seems to position himself nicely off the puck, plays responsible not getting caught deep, makes an effort to keep his shifts short, nice clean line changes.

Missed the 1st period. Was it lopsided for CAL in the 1st?

No defense, no wins. Simple as that! A minor league team at best. |

I like his game also, has some nifty mitts, right now, wouldn’t’t mind trying him between ADB and Kane. |

No, actually, Fleury gave up a weak goal a minute in and the Hawks didn’t fold. Murphy made a bad play on Lucic goal, Calgary had a lot of shots, but Fleury wasn’t under siege. |

Hawks defense is under pressure cause the offense doesn’t control the puck long enough. I think the Hawks had at most 2 shifts that they were able to cycle the puck. |

Were Flames dominating play for stretches, yes. We're the Hawks being patient in their own end yes. Did you see Fleury s 1st goal against because 5 doesn't know how to put a stick on a stick? Pretty soft. Having trouble getting out of their own end. Yes, and with all that the Flames had trouble scoring. Other than the Oil, teams are struggling to score down broadway. The Blackhawks are doing a much better job of protecting the middle of the ice. These HDSC are not free anymore. There are bodies all over the place between Fleury and and the shooter.
Since everyone is a pro about HDSC that last goal against was that considered one, probably but it really wasn't.

Hawks had 11 SATs - 7 on net - in the first. |

Yea they won't, at the end of the 2nd period he abandoned the front of his own net, that's why all of a sudden he was paired with 22 |

I like to think most times my eyes are close to the fancies but they weren't tonight. Thought for sure the Hawks had more HDCF in the 2nd but it was 6-4 CAL. Expected Corsi and Fenwick to in Calgary's favor as the seemed to be coached to throw things at the net, lotta long range shots. Hawks nicely kept them to the outside a good bit ..... Thought the Hawks had bodies between the puck and Fluery, some blocks, some shots deflected and went wide...... Missed the first but didn't see any clown show stretches. Not too many times hemmed in.
This vs a very well coached, bought in squad that's 1st in the Pacific and the 3rd best win percentage in the league.

I know you're being facetious regarding Kurashev. And, I'd have zero issues with Dach being sent to the Rock for awhile, before the Hawks ruin him.

Paging Dominick Kubalik, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was a scratch, been a no show for awhile now. - LAHawk
Not that it would matter, but I see this guy flourishing in a new environment. With the Hawks lately, though, he's been a nothing burger. If he indeed wants out, I'd gladly accommodate him if we got something decent in return.

Toews may not be scoring, but he’s trending in the right direction, I can see him going on a little run. I’m not saying that he’s a $10M player, but some think that he’s finished, I’m not one of them. - Angotti
Agreed Louie but he needs to be playing with Kane and Debrincat. Dach has not earned that top spot and moving him down with Hagel and Kubilik has been successful before. Toews can't create scoring chances like he used to so playing with Kane will take some pressure off and I'm betting he'll get better scoring chances than Dach is getting.
It's time to move Dach down but I do give him cudos for mixing it up in P1 to show some fight for his linemate.

New blog! A summary of the Blackhawks 5-2 loss despite hanging tight with the Flames for much of the game before getting burned late with the GWG and a pair of ENs.
Plus, a look at what Kirby Dach's first NHL fight could mean in the grand scheme of his career.
